I have owned a 1986 Cat. 30 - tall rig for the last five years and have enjoyed it very much. I still like my 30 but have recently looked at a 310 at a show and find myself to be somewhat taken by it. I think the main attraction is that it looks to me like my wife would really like it and, as a consequence, probably spend more time sailing with me. Would love to hear any comments that those of you who own or have looked at 310's might have. One concern I have is storage. Presently, I keep a first aid kit and small tool box under the nav station. I store a large tool box and a spare parts box under the V-Berth. I also keep a fender board and material for changing oil etc. under the quater berth. In reflecting on the shiny new 310 I looked at, I don't working storage in the interior of the boat. Where do you keep things like tools, spare parts, spinker, bosun's chair etc. Also would appreciate any other comments on the 310. Thanks

You will get almost daily emails from C310 owners about all aspects of the 310. And you can post your questions about the 310 feedback/ storage to the C310-list@sailnet.net Also on the sailnet site you can search email archives specific to the 310 have to type in a subject eg purchase and you can view past discussion. If you send me your email address I will forward the last few days discussion on the 310 from prospective buyers as to comments, issues, pluses etc My email is innes@smartchat.net.au I have ordered a new 310 it is on the high seas now to arrive here end of Nov. I will send you details of some of the issues we had to face. As to storage the port cockpit locker would hold a fair amount of your stuff Sue

The 310 is an impressive boat with modern appointments but I'm not so sure that it offers much more storage room than your C-30. I'm also wondering if your wife is just not as motivated to sail as you are regardless of the boat.

Give serious consideration to the C320. It sails wonderfully and has more space for storage and another couple which the C310 does not. My understanding is the C310 is for a couple where the 320 has more room to sleep others.

New 320 owner

Hi - A couple of observations, note I'm a fairly new 320 owner. 1. The 320 has a private rear stateroom. That was a big selling point with my wife, it gives us isolation from the kides at night time. I don't believe the 310 has that capability. 2. The 320 has a bunch of storage space, very large lockers under the cockpit and good space in the cabin. I do wish it had a second hanging locker, but it doesn't good lock on the choice

Movin' on up?

Will a new boat do it? Maybe .... maybe not. I've found, over the years, two things that seem to most influence the attitude of women toward sailing are comfort and quiet. Heeling is akin to drag racing in a car. It is uncomfortable to most and frightening to many. Regardless of the necessity, shouting is percieved as "yelling". No woman wants to be "yelled at". If you want a woman who is an not an experienced and proficient sailor to look forward to coming aboard whenever you ask: 1. Keep the boat on its feet, not on its ear. 2. Singlehand even when she's aboard; but if you must ask her for help, do it with a soft, pleasant voice and a smile. Develop a few hand signals so you don't have to raise your voice. Works for me!

Augi's right

You have covered the crucial universal points for wives that don't like to sail. Joe

310

We have had our 310 for 3 years (#23) and have no regrets. This boat was designed for a couple, and since it is the two of us 95% of the time, it has been great. Like all boats you will find things you wish were different, but aren't. Overall it is a great couples cruiser.
