3 of us lowered mast H260, that mast is heavy, I admit gin pole is needed

Long ago I foolishly wondered why people use gin pole for h260. My old Macgregor26c skipped it. But after my 1st time lowering mast, wow h260 mast is heavier. Us 3 barely could lower it, using rear winch with rope running to front anchor well and hoop there to front stay, to have 1 guy let out slack as 2 of us wrestled mast down with us standing on top of boat. So, I admit gin pole is almost necessary. Without it, lowering mast would take 4 men, raising it maybe 6. Wow is h260 mast heavier than expected.

I went from MacGregor 26classic in water 3000 pounds to now Hunter 260 in water 5000 pounds, so I should have expected mast weight to feel double. But compared to human 300 pounds the under 150-200 mast isn't overly heavy for boat to take as you wrestle it around. Hmmm, but maybe use some blankets and plywood in between if must lay down. But I can't imagine wrestling an even bigger mast. H260 design broke new ground in big trailerable boat. - D

I use a small 4 wheeler winch with a portable battery pack & reinforced gin pole. Great for single person rigging.

The Armstrong method sounds like a job for younger crew!

I saw a 260 being towed a few months back. It looked HUGE!

I've done the same but with a 7A gel cell battery. The wireless controller is a big help.

Ok. In a rush I've thrown together a low way to store the h260 mast, with 95% of weight split between bow and a PVC rear mast crutch, and 5% on the spreaders. Spreaders just are kissing some plywood put to spread out any touch. I admit involving the mast braces would be better but I'm tired. I need to stiffen the mast crutch so less bend: maybe insert a 2nd pipe, add post hole foam, switch to metal. I need to also strap down all before hurricanes. I think this "LowRider H260" is ok option, I'm sure others did this before. Crutch is 90" of pvc. I'm almost 6ft and can sit in chair and my head don't touch mast. See Pics. THANKS. - Davenport

Yet more pics of LowRider h260 option.... That's all. Hmmmm. If I raise the front with another 4x4 the rear would drop 3 more inches... Mast crutch with notch is 90 inches.
