What size 3-blade prop is appropriate for the Hunter 28.5? In the specs, it says 15x10. Anyone tried it?

Two-blade is plenty and will feather better. Been using one six years on 29.5, terrific.

three blade

Claude, I disagree that a three blade prop is overkill. The only correct answer is what are you trying to gain by going to a three blade prop? And if it is a fixed blade or feathering type. I switched to a 3 blade fixed and never looked back. I don't race and drag is not a concern to me. The 3 blade is much much smoother (less vibration, less noise, kind of like a VW vs a Caddy)and that alone made it worth while to me. The additional plus's are you can run at a slightly reduced rpm, get a little more "punch" when into the wind and waves as well a little bit more prop pull when backing (this may or may not be an advantage depending on you)and the drive train is smoother. The only real answer is what you are trying to accomplish with the three blade. Good Luck !

Max-Prop

Claude, I'm so glad you asked about props fpr a 285. I have one (1987) and I just love it except for going in reverse. Anyone who owns a 285 knows what I'm speaking about. Very little control and no much power. So I spent some time looking at 3 blade "feathering" props which seem to be better than folding models. HOWEVER, feathering props are very expensive even if they work so well. I'm still thinking about it and may, in the end, decide to spring for one. I don't expect to sell our boat in the near future because it's just perfect for the bay, in my opinion. I've included a link to Max-Props. Interesting site just to view even if you don't buy a new prop.
