Im new to sailing going pick up a 79 oday 28 this saturday i was wondering if theres a detaild rigging diagram somewhere or a video showing how exactly to rig the boat i am also wondering weather this boat is self bailing and if not where would the bilge be located . Also in the picture i posted it looks like theres a bracket with 3 pullys can anyone tell me what they are for theres a spot directly across on the opposite side of the boat that looks like the same kind of assembly was bolted there but isnt there now. Any info is greatly appreciated
I owned an O'Day 28 of the same vintage.
Boat is definitely not self bailing. There is a bilge and it should be accessed by lifting the floor boards in the main cabin. There should be a bilge pump there that will pump any water that might collect. Our 28 also had a manual bilge pump that was located in the cockpit.
The cock pit drains through through drains that are connected to through hull drains. They do not and should not drain into the bilge. Unless there is something wrong with the drain hoses.
You might also want to do a search in the archives of this site as you will find a number of postings related to various boats.
One source you definitely need to find and you will if you search is that there is a man named Rudy who knows everything there is to know about odays and he sells parts for them. I'm sorry but I can't recall his last name or company name but it is in the postings. He was an amazing help whenever I needed anything for the boat.
Let me edit this.
First have you tried the O'Day section of this site?
https://forums.sailboatowners.com/index.php And you will see O'Day as the fourth item down.
I went there and did a search for "Rudy" and up popped a thread for Rudy at D & R Marine. He's the go to guy.
