I need to reinstall the centerboard on a 1993 26s which the PO removed for repairs. I have purchased a new pivot bolt assembly and cable assembly. I welcome any advice concerning:
1. a safe way to lift the boat off the trailer. (I am in west Texas with no readily available boat lifts.)
2. reinstallation tips
3. do the cabin access and ballast tank inspection plates need to be resealed to be water tight upon completion?

Did you ever get this job completed?

(1) There are a number of threads here and over on macgregorsailors site that describe how to get the boat up and off the trailer...

(2) takes two people, or a jack and some time getting in and out of the boat to check the alignment of the holes before you can push the bolt thru.

(3) mostly just an issue of tightening the new pivot bolt sufficiently, and making sure the tube covering the lift cable is sealed at the bottom correctly.

I won’t repeat Vizwhiz suggestions or comments.

But, as for lifting the boat for the job, I wasn’t satisfied with options I saw from others who had done it before.

I found what I consider a far better and safer solution: Borrow a trailer from an owner that hands a boat with a fixed keel about the same size. That should raise your McGregor high enough and FAR more safetly. Just be aware of potential changes in center of gravity fore-aft due to boat position. So long as you leave the trailer connected to the tow vehicle even that shouldn’t Be a problem.
