23 oday rigging instructions

Hello I am new to sailing and just purchased a 1980 23 oday. Does anyone have a copy of the rigging instructions?

You probably want the other side of the "manual". Yes, the manual is a two-sided single sheet of paper. Simpler times...

I just picked up a 2012 nissan 9.8 motor with 3 hrs on it for 1500. With that said is there a way to "lock" the engine while it is on the boat so no one steals it? The boat will be sitting on a moring and i dont want someone to steel it

Plenty of outboard locks available, from simple cables and padlocks, to crazy bars that cover the clamp handles. You'll find plenty if you google outboard lock. The trick is finding one that fits with your outboard mount bracket. On a 23, you probably have a lifting Garelick type, which ought to allow any width bar style. They don't often fit on smaller fixed position brackets where the clamp screws are down between the side pieces of the mount bracket.

Master Locks sells an outboard lock package that includes a brass padlock and one of those u-channel bars that slide across the thumbscrews that fasten the outboard to the outboard mount. I bought one and put it on at the beginning of the summer. At the end of the season, the lock wouldn't open: corroded. I figured I just got a bad apple and bought another package the next year. This time, I rinsed the lock in fresh water after every sail. At the end of the year, same result: the lock was so corroded I had to cut it off. Never again. I now use a kryptonite cable bike lock. No problems after 5 years.

I have used a simple padlock through both clamp screw handles for years on our assortment of outboards. On our 14' powerboat I originally locked the 9.9 on using a Master-Lock brand outboard lock that was a channel over the clamp-screws held on by a padlock at the end...... the padlock corroded and I broke the key trying to open it......OK, no problem....I just took a pair of vise-grips and simple twisted off the little tab that closed off other end of the channel! So much for great security! Since then I've used a little waterproof grease or lithium grease on the padlocks and that usually keeps them free. One tip, point the key-hole down to prevent water from getting in, or tape over the key-hole if you install padlock with key-hole up.
