Reef Lines
Hi Larry,
I'm not familiar with a metal boom vang being provided as standard equipment for the H260. It may have been added by the previous owner or as part of a dealers package. Is there a brand name on it anywhere?
There is a single line associated with reefing the main. It goes through the boom, along with the out haul and topping lift. At the end of the boom the line comes out and goes up and through the reefing cringle on the roach of the main. It then returns to the boom end and ties off on the eye strap on the side of the boom.
You work this line from the mast, where it comes out of the boom through a clam cleat.
There is a ear strap sewn into the main at the luff reef point. When reefing, this ear goes onto the bail sticking up at the goose neck and is pulled tight by the mail halyard. While the bail is on both sides of the goose neck, the ear strap is on only one side of the main sail.
You then pull the reefing line in tight to bring the roach reef point down to the boom. At this point, the mail is reefed. You can roll up the excessive sail and secure it to the boom with short lines through the three reefing cringles found in the main sail.
I placed 1/4" line through each of these cringles, with a figure eight knot on ether side of the main sail. There is about 1' of line on each side. This way the lines are already in place when I'm ready to secure the excessive sail.
