Does anyone have a a PDF of manual? I just bought my Hunter 260 but the manual was missing pages. I am also looking for a photo of how to rig the metal boom vang ( not the rope version).
Is there a better illustrated version of how to step the mast..also taking it down?

Also ,,,,i am looking for help on how to rig all the reef lines

Many thanks to those who answered my question about trailering and hitches

Reef Lines

Hi Larry,
I'm not familiar with a metal boom vang being provided as standard equipment for the H260. It may have been added by the previous owner or as part of a dealers package. Is there a brand name on it anywhere?

There is a single line associated with reefing the main. It goes through the boom, along with the out haul and topping lift. At the end of the boom the line comes out and goes up and through the reefing cringle on the roach of the main. It then returns to the boom end and ties off on the eye strap on the side of the boom.

You work this line from the mast, where it comes out of the boom through a clam cleat.

There is a ear strap sewn into the main at the luff reef point. When reefing, this ear goes onto the bail sticking up at the goose neck and is pulled tight by the mail halyard. While the bail is on both sides of the goose neck, the ear strap is on only one side of the main sail.

You then pull the reefing line in tight to bring the roach reef point down to the boom. At this point, the mail is reefed. You can roll up the excessive sail and secure it to the boom with short lines through the three reefing cringles found in the main sail.

I placed 1/4" line through each of these cringles, with a figure eight knot on ether side of the main sail. There is about 1' of line on each side. This way the lines are already in place when I'm ready to secure the excessive sail.

I rigged my h26 to reef from the cockpit. On each reef point I fastened a single block with a shackle.
The clew reef line I tied off to an eyelet on the boom, directly below where the reef point would sit, then ran it up through the block and back down to the sheave in the boom end. Then forward through the boom to the sheave at the gooseneck. I attached another block with a shackle to a hole on the left side of the mast base. From here, the line runs through a deck organizer and back to a clutch on the left side of the cabin.
The tack reef line is tied off at the gooseneck, up through the forward pulley, and down to the sheave at the right side base of the mast (next to the main halyard sheave). Out to a deck organizer, and back through a clutch next to the halyard clutch.
The pulleys allow the line to run smoothly, and I can reef down single handed with minimal effort from the safety of the cockpit. Shaking out a reef is a matter of releasing the clutches and hauling the main halyard. Simple and effective.

Larry, I'm sure you've searched the archives and found Georges fine assembly of all things H260 including the manual. A rigid boom vang is a sweet option. You can say goodbye to that normally batton snagging topping lift line. Lucky you.

Bilgewater, I'd sure like some pics of your reefing system. Anything like the pic from Harkin below? Almost went with the simple lazy jack sys pictured below also but the boom would start to look like spider web of lines, with that and cockpit reefing lines to snag everything in sight. Opted for simple(nothing) but a cockpit reefing sys seems a very worthy summer project when I pull the boat out for the broiling season starting next week.

Soling 42 - I'll try and get some pics this weekend. Yes, the system is very much like the Harken drawing, but with two lines instead of one. I think you have more control and get a bettet setting sail with two lines.
I never bothered with lazy jacks. Always thought they were more trouble than they were worth, especially with a boom kicker.
