1987 Catalina 22 Replacing Rubber Seals on Pop Uo Seat Locher Hatches.

We are looking for some suggestions as to what material to purchase in the replacement of exterior Pop Up Battery and Fuel Compartment Seat Lockers. Catalina Direct has an expensive product: Hatch Gasket Black Rubber (catalinadirect.com) but not sure this product is rubber or if it has to be.
Want to eliminate boat wash down water leaks into Battery Seat Pop Up Locker particularily. The Fuel Compartment loccker pop up is less of an issue because it drains to the deck internally.
There appear to be challenges with removing the existing seal and cleaning out the trench these gaskets fit into. Any help with that task and preparation for the new gaskets would also be appreciated

Catalina Direct has an expensive product:

I've seen worse. If the new gasket is maintained, it's good for the life of the boat.

If not maintained, maybe 10 years.

"Challenge" is putting it rather mildly when removing gaskets. @$^%&#* is a much more accurate description. Allow an easy 3-4 hours prep for EACH lazerette. Use razor sharp wood chisels that fit the trench (re-sharpen to fit the curve of the trench), acetone, lacquer thinner, sandpaper, Dremel with wire brush, and whatever else you can find that works. Use the usual precautions with strong solvents and experiment. A job like like this will not be a picnic but when it's finished, it's well worth the effort.

Search for Trim-lok. I replaced the pop top gasket on my C22 a few years ago.I found good match for it on Amazon.

Catalina Direct knows your boat well. If not, call the Catalina plant In Largo Florida and ask for skip. Tell him Crazy Dave sent you. He may direct you to parts. I am a former Catalina dealer now retired

The Largo Fabrication location is a "JOKE" they don't call back, they sent all their parts not scheduled for boat fabrication out to Defender. I have toured this location and from a simple observation I have no idea how this location survives while starting to understand why CD is a profitable as they are. Kind of uncomfortable as to the longevity of this Brand...........................
