Bilge water turns blue(head treatment) also very strong odor. I pulled all cushions and inspection boards and see it is on the deck undeer the tank, the hose connections are original rusty and rather weak looking. I am thinking about pulling the whole system out tank and all to ensure no tank holes under side and if not replacing all hoses and fittings.I have no fresh water to flush so we use a gal jug with treatment to pump/flush now.Periodicaly pumping out tank at dock pump out station.

Nobody wants to do it, but those hoses are nearly 30 years old, gotta replace them. I have the same odor dilemma. At the last pump out I added some citrus cascade to the tank with about 8-10 gallons of water,went sailing, let that scour the inside of the tank for a couple weeks, then pumped back out. Seems to have helped quite a bit. One of our mutual dilemmas is that there is no real "P" trap in the system to contain odors as a house system does and relies heavily on the head valve to seal properly, which few do. We will probably replace old head this year for around $150 with the new model from Jabsco and see if that makes a better difference.
