I recently bought a Pearson 39 with a retractable keel. When i paid to have the bottom soda blasted, my painter came across a weeping stain on the leading lower edge of the keel. After having him grind out the area he found a sizable void in the lower part of the keel. The previous owner ran the boat aground in a storm. I am worried that some ballast was removed during the repair and not replaced. Does anyone know if there is supposed to be ballast in the front section of the keel that does not house the retractable keel? Really at a loss and would really appreciate any help.
