I'm looking for technical or owners
manuals of my boat na O'Day 20 that would have developed when they (O'Day) originally built it.
Pleaes let me know if such information still exists?

No Such Luck So Far

DE Lamb-
I have been looking for the same information, I recently aquired a 1973 O'Day 20 with no documentation--I have been scouring the web for such information. The only thing that I have found is off Iheartodays.com they have a pamphlet of rigging instructions for $7.
If you find anything else, I would be interested in a copy or the source.

good luck

I have some copies of brochures & technical info that came with my boat. They're in .pdf format & I'll be glad to post them or email 'em to you.

I have a few items that may help!
D&R Marine will have the rigging guide, the diagrams will most likely be circa 1976-7 and so show the later tall-rig (fractional instead of the 1973-75 masthead rig). www.drmarine.com Rudy Nickerson at D&R Marine used be the Parts Dept. Manager for O'DAY and he is a pretty good expert on the O'DAYs. The "owners Manual" that O'DAY provided was basically just a 2-sided 11" x 17" paper with instructions on one side and diagrams on the other. They also included a book on generic rigging advice, and sail care. I assume that manufacturers manuals for any optional equipment was included as well.

I cannot help you with a manual but have a question for you.
I also own a 20' O'Day and have a rudder that is not original and extends 30" below the waterline. I understand that they came with a kick-up type rudder and would like to see a picturenof the original so I can make one from the one I now have. Do you have a pic of the rudder set-up?

original rudder not kickup

i have a '74 oday with the original rudder. it is not a kickup model.

i believe it has a foam core so would be difficult to make into a kickup model.

d&r marine sells a kick up rudder. you can also find some photos of kick up rudders for oday 23s if you search. it would give you a starting point.

Joe from the good ship Trinkka has posted them before and will probably help you out if you can't find them in a search.

Slarkin: Attached are pix of my rudder with close (but not exact!) measurements. The board is in 2 pieces (except the tiller) and is joined with a stainless steel sandwich. It appears to be glass coated and the kickup piece has the weight (I didn't weigh it, but I'd guess about 50#).
The pivot point is a stainless bolt and nut with a handle to adjust the friction at the pivot. Good luck.

is this the original rudder or did someone modify the original rudder. the rudder looks alot like my original oday 20 rudder only mine is fixed. it also doesn't weigh 50lbs as i lift mine out each time when the water is low.

I'm having difficulty with this Forum (could be my lack of computer skills), so if this reply is a repeat, I'm sorry.
Bought this boat used & PO was not the first. I suspect that the rudder is original - the boat is a centerboard & was well taken care of; very few mods.
The weight was just a guess, I'll try to borrow the Admiral's bathroom scale and weigh it.

This appears to be the original fixed rudder, modified to kick-up. The Factory Optional kick-up rudder looks similar but has aluminum cheeks that extend up to the top of the rudder. Profile seems to be the same as the original fixed rudder, but construction is wood and aluminum instead of fiberglass w/foam-core. Here are some pictures of the factory-optional kick-up rudder, I received these from an O'DAY 20 owner.
BTW: All O'DAY 20's were built as Keel/CB boats as far as I know, and the standard rudder was fixed, not kick-up. I'm not sure why O'Day didn't make the Kick-up rudder standard from the start like on the 192 and 222.

ODay20 Info

Tom: I'm having problems with AOL today, so I'll send my files when it comes back up. Unfortunately an HD crash has wiped out the old interior Pix of my boat.

Hope this info is helpful.

Hi SMOday20,
I have just purchased a 1976 Oday 20 without manual and would love to get copies of whatever you have. The one thing I do have is the original (1986) Evinrude manual for the 8hp Yachtwin that is full of pictures and information.
Thank you!
