I had my 1973 P33 Cruising Interior surveyed since I found a little rot in the deck. The surveyor had a big problem with my starboard aft chainplate knee since it was shaved off ( see photo ). I'm thinking the factory did this to accomodate the trim piece to cover the knee.

Has anyone ever seen this on another P33?

Thanks

P33

I have 72 P33 with the cruise interior. I will see If I can a picture of the chain plate support tomorrow.
BTW, The P33 is a great boat. I would not let a little de-lam slow you up. all boats this age have it to some extent. The good thing is there is enough glass that it doesn't matter. I fix it when I bump into it re-bedding fitting but certainly don't go looking for it.

Thanks for checking into your knee, I'm pretty sure it was shaved to accommodate the trim piece. I neglected to show the trim piece to the surveyor, if he saw it he probably would came to the same conclusion.

They are great boats! We have put a lot of money into our old girl, so the delam and other issues will be fixed to keep her sailing.

It's no problem, I'm on the hard this fall for total rewiring, Seacocks, and Thru-Hulls.

I do have a question for you; where are your batteries? I can not figure out where Shaw put them/it in the original boat?

Thanks for the photos, I'm not sure why mine has been shaved. Maybe it was over built and cut down to fit the trim. Did you have fake wood formica in this section? I have formica, some type of aluminum foil backer board and then contact cement.

I have two batteries in the starboard lazarrette all the way forward at the house bulkhead. I have an additional smaller batteries right behind the lower drawer on the left of the companion way as you exit the house. This was the configuration when I bought the boat, I think the original battery location is where I now have the two batteries.

The trim is the wood Formica covered in the ugly tan vinyl the hull is lined with. Someday I will replace it with real hull liner. Maybe with the cushions this winter.

I have a platform forward in the starboard lazarett but I didn't know if it was intended for the batteries or a hot water heater. Thanks! My boat came to me re-powered with a 2gm20F Yanmar. It was delivered with Westerbeake. Most were sold with A-4s. Lots has changed. I'm moving the primary wiring to the port lazarett forward bulkhead. Both Starter and Alternator are on that side. I'm pretty sure a pair of golf cart batteries will go under the galley sink so all will be right there. The Yanmar fuel pump, filter, and return are on the starboard side along with the raw water inlet. Primary Fuel filter, raw water Strainer and coolant overflow is all going to the port side, moved from the starboard side, behind and under the drawers. This is the second worst part of the boat, (following shaft removal ), So I'm dedicated in fixing it now.
I'm in the process of removing every wire in the boat so I have things torn apart and the domino effect urge is strong.

Good luck with the survey. I have resisted the whole insurance issue beyond simple liability, assuming that is what you are dealing with.

What are you considering as a "real" hull liner? I'm leaning towards carpet but looking for ideas.

I have the platform for the batteries also, so I guess that nails it as the original location. My hot water heater is in the same spot on the port side.

The survey was for my own sanity, no insurance or sale. I just needed to have someone with more experience then myself take a look since we just put a little over 5k on main sail improvements last year.
