I recently acquired a 1972 O'Day 22 and would like to learn more about it. Does anyone out there have a manual for this specific year? Also, it has no hatch in the front of the cabin. Can anyone recommend a hatch to install? Thanks Wackman

Look on this website under the "Resources" tab at the top, then "Manuals". The Oday 22 manual is available for download. Prepare for disappointment. These "manuals" are no more than one or two pages and are nothing like auto owner's manuals. Unlike auto manuals, they do not provide info on systems, maintenance, specifications, parts, etc.

Same boat
Wackman - I've had the same boat, same year for several years and have done lots of restoration and repairs. If you have questions let me know and I'll pass on my email address. I assume you know about Rudy at D&R Marine - best source for parts.

Thanks for replying. I am still trying to figure out how this boat works. However, it is in the water, not leaking and it is not in bad shape. I will need to replace the ports and cushions pretty soon however. If you wouldn't mind an occasional question, I'd be really happy to know someone who has the same boat. Yes, I have learned about D&R. Apparently that is where all O'Day owners go for parts. Thanks for your help. Jon

The manual posted on the web is based on the 1977 vintage 22, still mostly aplicable to earlier and later years. The mainsheet will be different though, the 1972 model had a triangle mainsheet setup, across the stern, from memory of early 22s that I've seen it had a block on the aft end of the cockpit coaming on each side, block on starboard side (or was it Port?) had a camcleat attached. Mainsheet was tied/spliced to a becket loop on top of that block, ran up to a double-block on end of boom, down to block on other side of stern, back up to double-block on boom end, then down through the first block and camcleat. Forward hatch was optional on the 1972 22, Rudy would be able to suggest a suitable hatch, although you will need to contend with the curve of the deck. One thing about D&R Marine, it is better to give Rudy a phone call than to rely on e-mail! OH, yes...I am still working on turning that original O'DAY 22 manual into a booklet, like I did for the Widgeon and the Day Sailer II. Thanks to Rudy I got some great info to add to those manuals. I also have copies of the 1977-85 O'DAY 23 manual and the O'Day 25 manual. Stil lworking on the 1971-75 O23.
