Here are some of the trouble spots. We'll see how much needs repaired once I start digging in.

Companion way skin is literally bursting and separating.

The rest of these are from the grab rails never being sealed properly, so the majority of the top is mush.

And the stellar repair which is still tacky to the touch.

Looks like she'll be getting a new to her mast instead of the banged up mess i've got! We'll be making a trip of it the middle of Oct. to pick it up! Thanks Ken!

Started making some cuts and doing some exploratory drilling. It looks like most of what needs re-cored is the immediate surrounding area where the tracks for the companion way hatch are. For whatever reason screws were missing and mis-matched allowing the easiest ingress for water. Previous owners really stink! :D Here's some really trashed core!

Are we having fun yet? :puke

Getting ready to make the trip up and get the new mast. I had to make something that would let me transport a 32' mast...

Here's the finished product! It's drives great and articulates like it should. We took our old mast out for a shake down run. No problems whatsoever.

A closer look at my contraption. It pivots on a 3/8" bolt. I used a pressure treated 2x6 board.

To clamp the mast in, I run a piece of all thread through the top of the angle brackets and squeeze the mast in. Of course I wrap carpet around the mast being careful not to over tighten and crimp it. Works like a charm!

Glorious TRIP! We drove out to upstate NY to meet Ken and Robyn who own a sister ship. They are prepping their boat for canal cruising so won't need sails and such. I can not thank them enough for their hospitality! We ended up coming home with a beautiful mast, a new sail inventory, rudder and all rigging. I'm stoked, the amount of work and head scratching this trip has saved us is simply not re-payable. Thanks Ken and Robyn!!! Onto the pictures, some said it couldn't be done, others wondered how! :D We didn't get that many looks, I was hoping for a thumbs up from fellow sailors on the freeway - but didn't pass any I guess?

The day before we left for home, we did get to visit this...

On our way home, somewhere in NY/PA, can't remember...

Home sweet home!

"I can not thank them enough for their hospitality!"
All it took was a couple Yuenglings and a lot of wings. Nate likes wings, lots.

"the amount of work and head scratching this trip has saved us is simply not re-payable."
It's not too late to change her name.

Nate and Lisa are a couple of the nicest people you could hope to meet. It was like a reunion of old friends, good friends.

Do note the mast hauler. It's pure genius in its simplicity and function.

Kenny,
I've got to admit that I've never seen anything like that. That rig certainly is very ingenious. Nate has taken on a real challenge but I have no doubt that if anyone can bring that boat back, he can. My friend "Baysailor Bill" in Providence RI had one and he brought it back to an almost new condition. He did a lot of swearing while trying to free up the centerboard and wound up breaking it in two just getting it out of the keel slot. I've always loved the interior of those boats. When he gets it finished it will be nice, I'm sure.

Haha, yes I like food in general! And Beer! The zesty wings were damn good by the fire!

Ken, make sure to tell AJ I said thanks for helping get the mast out of the barn. I didn't get a chance to thank him.

The rig worked beautifully, the 4runner on the other hand. She was slinging GL5 all the way home, looks like it's going to need at least the seal replaced on the rear output shaft. But 200K can't really blame her.

It will be in the water this coming spring for sure. Now that I don't have to sort out the mast and rigging, i'm home free! Finish the cabin top, replace some running rigging and splash it...

I'll be looking forward to seeing the pictures of that in the spring Nate! You're going to have a blast with this boat when you get it in the water.

More amateur hour on my boat! This has been bothering me for a while. The bow u-bolt was loose as hell. Here's what i'm left with...

What are some better ways to fasten this u-bolt to my bow?

Yes, was looking around at some. I may fab up a plate and get it welded. Then machine some contoured spacers so the nuts have something to bite on.

That would be your best bet, I think.

I think you and "what's her name" should pack up a bucket of your homemade wings,
come out here, I'll have the Yuengling, and we discuss it.
Seriously-
Might be easier to grind a small radius on one side of the nut?

Got the masts stored away for the winter. Recore of the cabin top will happen soon I hope.

I've picked up another hobby since I can't sail or hardly work on my boat this time of year...

Here's my first attempt! Nothing fancy - alot of improvising to make it happen since I don't have anything really put together at the moment... Couple cinder blocks, an old license plate, and a turkey fryer burner. LOL Worked fine and the beer will taste fine i'm hoping.

The outcome! 5 gal of beer, 6 gal of cider that'll be ready in a few weeks!

Are you thirsty yet? :D
