Cat 27 100 -110 - 115 Headsail?

I have a 150 genoa on my Cat 27 and want to get a smaller sail for heavier air. If I am only going to buy one sail - what size should I buy for 20 kts of wind ?

Around Dallas we've had 20+ kts almost every weekend this year. I'm grateful for a roller furling as I can use only what I need, and lately that is less than 100. In your case if you are just cruising I'd get the 110. My 2 cents.

Your boat is a masthead rig and the engine on a masthead rig is the jib - on a fractional rig the engine is the mainsail. A 100, 110 or 115 are similiar to a storm jib. In my opinion, the best all around choice for a jib would be a 135 and if you team that up with a roller furler you'd have an excellent performance setup.

Originally I had a 155 on a C30 but it was a pain for me to deal with singlehanded so I sold it and bought a high cut 135. After the first sail I didn't much like that sail either so I sold it and bought a 135 that was cut just about the level of the safety lines or a bit below. I really liked that sail.

If your question is truly what is right for 20 kts, I would recommend a 95% battened blade. I had one on my 1977 C27 and it was ideal when the wind piped up, and easy to singlehand. This will require an additional short piece of inboard track up near the shrouds.

Consider a Yankee Cut 100 - 110. It will give you visibility ahead and still provide plenty of power in 15 - 20 kts.
