Please don't be confused with the name of this picture as it appears in this group. It's true name is the ''Highwayman's Hitch'' on this page. I read an article in an old boating magazine that featured this hitch. It was referred to as the "Scandinavian Hitch.'' It was supposedly used by Scandinavian boaters on rivers in conjunction with the anchor. They would anchor in the river close to shore and rope the stern off to a tree on shore with this hitch and a smaller diameter trip line that they could use to spill the hitch from the cockpit of their boats.
