Who made my leaky ports?

I have a 1990 Peason 33. It finally got in the water after 18 months on the hard. The ports are now leaking (more than ever)..maybe being on the hard for so long? I removed the plastic trim and found all the screws securing the aluminum frame to the inside cabin were somewhat loose, so I tightened them---really tight. First question--is it possible to 'over tighten' those screws where it might cause a deflection to the cabin trunk? The water intrusion is really from the 'pooling' around the bottom of the lens where it meets the rubber gasket on the outside (the ports open in), not from the aluminum frame itself. My thought was tight is better than loose. I will also try applying some petroleom jelly to bring back some life to those gaskets. Anyone have a similiar experience and a non-intrusive remedy? Rebeding is not an option and might not be necessary, expecially if it is just the rubber gasket. I came across some 'rain guards' that are made specifically for this--they divert the water around the port. Anyone use these?...and finally...anyone know who made the ports for my boat?

Well my 1986 P36-2 has Beckson ports.... I replaced all gaskets with the original material still available from Beckson. Find out who hade your ports and call them... chances are they have the gaskets. Post a picture for help identifying.

Good Luck

From 1987 on Pearson used mostly Lewmar ports. If you have Lewmar then Select Plastics can rebuild them for you or provide new seals. Check their web site for information:

Be careful when tightning the screws. They are stainless and the frame is alum. If you twist one off, it may be a problem getting the old screw out.

I had Select Plastics rebuild the fixed ports last winter and they are like new and no longer leaking.
