C27 Wood Block Under Compression Post

Has anyone replaced this block? Mine is damp and I think I'll need to replace it. Based on the shape of the keel sump it doesn't look like the block would be very big in the fore/aft direction. It appears that not very much of this lock is actually under the compression post.

What is your experience? Thanks for your responses.

Mine is damp also, but solid, so it's probably going to last quite a while.

Take a scratchawl and probe it for actual rot you may find that its still sound like mine. There are threads out there, (on this and other sites), dealing with this. More importantly there is one somewhere that said you could still buy the properly shaped replacement block from Catalina. I never verified that so if you end up getting one let us know. I'm planning to replace the wood in the bottom of the bilge eventually and probably take care of the block at the same time.

My 82 also seems ok. There is a little softness on the surface 1/8" but seems solid after that. No Catalina smile either.
However the C30 I'm buying need the block replaced. Very mushy. Marina said they would charge around $700 to do the job. I might do it myself but would have to have them drop the rig anyway.

I replaced the keel stub wood at the tail end of last year, so that job is done. My wood block under the post is firm and I don't think it's rotted, but it doesn't look like a very big job because it's easily accessable and like I say doesn't seem like the block extends very far forward. There was a very thin piece of glass in front of it but I cut that away in hopes that it would dry out. I may put a heater close to it and see it that will dry it out.

I tried searching for info on this on this site but couldn't find any answers on point.
