My sink would have also just ended up full of junk- I have very little use for it.. I re-routed the drain to a "sink" in the head area. The "tray" for the DVD player folds up when not in use.

I also like it. I was thinking about foaming the bottom of the sink, then using a deck like that with a removable cover and using the sink as a small cooler with ice. It would drain itself. Did you get rid of the head or just the door?

I also got rid of the door - although it is useful if you store bulky stuff (like sail bags) in the head area. The curtain is nice alternative to the door for privacy. This is how I re-plumbed the sink drain..

That's funny, if you open my head door, there are sail bags, covers, and the pop top cover crammed in there.

I will be cutting my sink out shortly, and replacing it with one inch butcher block that I've found from a local remodel. I'm looking forward to it, but am still struggling a bit with the design...for example, do I just separate the whole top, etc. In the back will be sunken bottle holders, as it's a great place to store stuff like wine.

Hey Walt, could you post some more pics/link of your head. The Admiral is all for a bucket as long as she is comfortable. I was like Sumner's setup but im not ready to do that much work yet. I apologize for hijacking this thread.

Sure.. uses wag bags. The bungies keep the lid on very tight in case you try and get more than one use out of a bag (and you DONT want that "assembly" flying around in the cabin with a payload). I didnt modify the boat at all so that the original "water tank" head can go back in.

Sumner has some way to control the smell - I asked him one time but dont remember what it was..

I like it. Does the seat latch on to the bucket or is it just sitting on top ready to give an unsuspecting user the ride of their life.

I was thinking about taking a 2nd lid and cutting the center out. Then attaching that to bottom of the seat then that should keep the seat from sliding around. The other lid would be used to seal the bucket when not in use.

I think I bought that toilet seat cover at Home Depot or some place like that (standard toilet seat and it is the "cushy" type - also very light wieght) but the seat had little tabs on the bottom. I cut slots in the tabs so that it always fits in the same place over the bucket.

On the subject of sinks - if you are going to cut out the existing sink, consider making the entire top lift up.
The mod in the attached pic has been one of our most useful.

Just wondering why you would never use a sink? I thought you were going to be doing more over-nighting?

We clean dishes every day in the sink. I thought about cutting it out and putting in a prettier one, but I decided against weakening that area, but that is probably not a big deal. Also about any replacement sink we would of put in would of taken up more room and the present one works,

I prefer to improve on the original design of the boat, not to cut it up too much. I kept the sink but can cover it up when not in use. Also added a large ice chest.

I gotta say, my sink has always been a catch all, like most others it appears.
It seems too small for washing dishes in.
So far I haven't been on the water long enough to warrant much dish washing anyway.
I try to use a minimum of dishes. and try to use disposable stuff if I can. Eat right out of the skillet, or right off the grill! No plates.
Hopefully after building in some cabinet space, the sink won't have to be the spot for so much stuff. Maybe then I can use it as it was intended.
