Several years ago, Practical Sailor did a review of those multi-faced radar reflectors, and found that they were much less effective than we had all been lead to believe. I have a vague recollection that PS rated an inexpensive burgee-type flag with metallic threads as a more effective radar reflector than the type pictured.

This sounds much better that the ball type arrangements with all its mounting drawbacks.
I also remember the PS article (can't find it now) and was more than a little ticked when I read it. However, can't remember the mention of the burgees.
............... where are these burgees are available, a brand name, anything at all ?

I don't remember the specifics, and I tossed all of my back issues of PS a couple of years ago; they were so old at that point, I didn't think they were worth keeping. Sorry for the tantalizing tidbit!
I have one of those ball type radar reflectors on my boat right now that I probably used about three times,-- 22 years ago. A burgee with metallic threads would work better for my boat, where I have a flag halyard that goes to the top of my mast and flag staff that could wave it above my mast.
I think I'm going to take that thing off my boat tomorrow and keep my eyes open for a burgee with the metallic threads.
