I have a 26d 1988 mac with a table and with two holes drilled into to the port side of the counter top forward of the sink. I am wondering if the table is pinned to the counter and then swung around into space and the leg attached then. Or, is the table stowed in thr head area and then put up each time. I don't see any pictures of the set up and am wondering how others have done it. Thanks in advance, Raffo

IIRC, the 'stock' table was stored below the aft berth. it was Formica like the hatches.

it did pin to the sink, but I'm not sure how it stood up... I assume a leg underneath.

-few of these tables survived, since they weren't that stable to begin with, and stored in the low point of the boat (water damage).

I didn't get one with my boat. I made a long thin table that use the 2 holes you describe aft of the sink, and rested on the ladder.

others have made better and more robust tables.

(I use long SS screws and plastic wing nuts for my 'pins')

-pic of your table?

I have an S not a D but it sounds similar. There is storage under the mattress in the aft berth. One of the storage covers there is used as the table. It has 2 screws that stay in it. Those fit in the 2 holes aft of the sink. I use wing nuts underneath to hold it down. There it a SS socket near the aft end of the table and a SS tube that plugs in for a leg.
It works, and is stable when you use the wing nuts but they are a PITA to get to under the sink area and it's a little inconvenient to get under the aft berth when I want it. I saw a picture on here where someone made a permanent table and hinged it and it looked reasonable, certainly user friendly, but a little small for me.
I may try to copy the same idea but I need to come up with a plan fo making it bigger.

Where to put a table in an S or D can have its problems. If it is attached to the sink then it limits getting under the sink and can be in the way of the person on that side going to the head or V-berth. Likewise with about any other fixed location. Either one person or the other can't use the table or it is in their way.

Our table is easily moved to the location where it is needed or to move it out of the way and it stores folded up about any place.

Here it is....

... on the sink and handy to someone preparing a meal from that side. Since the counter top is about the same height off the floor as one of the companionway steps it can go back there...

and the person on the port side can use it or it can be centered ...

...on the step and slid forward where it is easy for either person to use.... or ....

...slid back on the step to open the cabin center up some.

It is light and easy to use and I'm sure some of you are thinking that it isn't stable. Yes you might be able to knock it over if you tried real hard, but we have used it on the water for over 100 days, morning and night and that has never happened.

You don't have to make one exactly the same dimensions as I have and it is easy and quick to make. Just throw one together and see if it works for you and if it does then finish it off. I wouldn't be temped to put two legs on it. A three point stance like it has is plenty stable and the center leg is more out of the way.

We love it and wouldn't change a thing on it. More here....

The S (at least 1994) has the sink moved over to the starboard side and a swing table has been mounted. Here the formica stock table has been replaced by a mahogany one: http://macgregorsailors.com/modt/index.php?view=1609

I think I'm the one you're referring to. It works good for us and does not impede access under the sink because it flips up out of the way and stays up while you work under there. True it is small but two can eat there with room for a glass of wine. A hinged leaf would add more space but as is works fine for two. Pictued is my daughter making a sandwich for her old dad who is steering the boat. Any setup is better than the stock option.

Yep, that's the one!
Good idea. It's bullet proof and easy to set up and take down.
I don't have a built in stove, and I usually have a cooler sitting up there where your stove is. Sometimes I cook on the Colman 2 burner camp stove in the cabin. When I do, it's on the stock table. It has just enough room for the stove and a plate. I don't have a problem with it being in the way, but if I want to use the aft berth, I have to put the table back in place, and I'd rather not have to bother with it. So I might copy your idea, and possibly add a fold out leaf like you said, or something similar.
If I end up getting the fridge this spring, then my galley needs might change

I found mine under the aft birth. What led me to look for it was the table leg in the PO Goddie Box. The laminated top was lifting a little but not bad. I put a new plywood storage cover under the aft cushions. It is tippy if not held down as others have mention but still usable if careful.

Excuse the jammies as we were doing sleep-over in Mission Bay.

Galley Table

Thanks for all the great replys All the solutions would be better than stock. I think if I try, in the spring,to adapt mine I will try to pin it to the counter and pivot it onto the counter. The only glitch might be covering the sink( to Port in my year) when on the counter but, when around into space the sink can be used. I have yet to actually rely on the sink and not noticed a dire need for it, so perhaps an intermittant use of it will be ok.. We will see in the spring Thanks again for all such good solutions Raffo

You mean that is you? Maybe I'llshave mine. I grew one when I was laid up for five weeks. Instead of looking like the most interesting man in the world, kids just keep calling me Santa. Not the look I was goingfor. Maybe things will get better after the holidays.

If you get a chance stop by MDR on your way home from San Diego for a sail.

I've got the same PJ.s

I too made another table but with ply G1S and varithaned it. I put more holes in the end that goes on the sink edge so I could adjust the table side ways when I clean up after cooking or want to chart read from the port seat area. I store it with a smaller half size table that fits the in the same place for use when not cooking, They are stored in the head with bungies. I'm going to alter it so that the large table will swing up and stack against the DB trunk. Then make a drop down chart table in the head.

I don't screw the tables down. I glued a 1 1/2 sq piece of wood under the holes in the sink. Drilled out where the holes are and use 3 inch round head bolts through the table in to the wood.

I took the head door off some time ago for ease of access.

What are the plant pots for on the stove. Also what type of stove is it? I use the original alcohol one along with smaller butane one which I do not like so I'm going to get a two burner propane or pressure alcohol one. Any advise on this? I've installed a tin heat shield above the stove to protect the upper liner works well.

Happy New Year
