Some folks thought it would be a good idea this morning to move a 56ft. 58 gross ton power boat to the local boat yard.

Driving it blindly down the fairway that is about 80 ft. wide with 30kt crosswinds.

Moving a boat in a tight area that is covered in shrinkwrap with a 40hp yawl boat tied to the starboard aft quarter in these condition is just plain dumb. No way to see out except the yawlboat on stbd and an open door on port with no one there.

This is what I experienced this morning when getting off my boat to go to work. It had just missed my boat. Luckily I am in an oversize slip. But they hit the boat two down from me that was sticking out. I yelled for them to stop but they ignored me. There was not even a person looking out the port side where there is a door.

They hit at least one other boat along the fairway and made it around the end where they got blown back into the pier to the west. About 1000 ft away and I could hear the yelling and the fiberglass splintering as the yawl boat got crushed between the pier and the boat in the high winds.

BTW, the red line in the photo is an approximate course that I observed.

Tim, can you post your Lat/Lon or is that a security breach? If so then no problem. I tried checking your "boat blog" but got an "internal server error" message. Will you get some pictures of the carnage?

Ed, My blog appears to be working fine. Not sure why it gave you an error.

We have a big storm bearing down on us today so may not get pictures until this weekend.

Wow, are you saying that they were moving their boat and it is already shrink-wrapped? That is bizarre. What is a yawl boat? ... like a tender? Was there somebody in it as if to provide guidance to a blind captain inside the shrink-wrapped boat?

Just checked your blog again Tim and no problem. Have you been in that slip long enough that it is really your boat there in the Google Earth picture? Looks like it could be a covered boat but the bow is open and does not have Caliber lines. And what is that big thing with the purple-covered gangway?

Yup. A yawlboat is a small boat used to push a larger boat that cannot propel itself.

This is what I saw motoring down the fairway leaving destruction in it's path:

And for all you wise guys, no, the guys was not on the ladder at the time although it would have helped. And last I saw this boat, most of the shrinkwrap forward of that door was torn open.

The best part was knowing my wife would run outside in her underwear to save me as she thought I went overboard when I started yelling:D:dance:

No. This is just a temporary winter spot for us. We are in the slip that has the 2nd large power boat in it with the wooden foredeck.

The purple U shape is the standing seam roof of the marina office and brokerage buildings. The purple gangway leads into the DiMillos floating restaurant which is an old ferry.

Insane!

I wouldn't do that yelling outside the boat to get your wife running in her underwear trick too often ... that'll get old real quick and she might not react the same way next time! :D

Less than 5 weeks after a two year refit Rodney Dangerfield found my boat minding its own business on the mooring and just like the movie holed the cabin with his anchor

At least his insurance cut me a check

Some folks have more money than brains..Was this dingbat sited by the Harbor Patrol? I'd love to see the insurance claims on this one. We were sailing up the main channel in MDR on a starboard tack when a guy in Hobie 16 on port tack decided to tack right into us and put a nice hole in the side of our boat and then proceeded to haul a.. out the channel. The Harbor Police caught up to him and cited him for unsafe boating and leaving the scene of an accident. I had to sue him as he had no insurance. Fair Winds and Full Sails...

This is a commercial boat so they had better report this to the USCG or they may lose their license to carry passengers.

I know that spot pretty well. Two years ago I almost bought one of the condos that sit along the channel. The floating restaurant (former ferry) at DiMillo's gave it away.

I cannot understand what happens to so many human brains once in the Marina. I have stood on my stern rail holding off several trawlers with single shafts. Slow is fast folks.

I was up that way a couple of months ago. Dimillos's is a decent Restruant, but you should try Duckfat (Middle and India st.) for lunch sometime.
