I read all owner reviews on the Hunter 410 beore getting mine. The number 1 common issue appeared to be with the refrigator and frost issues. The past 2 weekends I too had the 410 frost problem.

So today I was looking at the seals and noticed there was a gap and started to think about how to fixx this. But I also looked some more and found a cause that I had never read about and so am sharing.

Before you go nuts; check the little latches on each side of the door. They are suppose to flip up when you open the top and of course latch back down to hold the lid shut. But I found 2 of mine (one on the freezer and 1 on the refrig) had gotten shut down. So when you closed the lid the corner would be just a little from being fully sealed. The lids look like they are closed, but they are not.

I wonder how many people have replaced the seals to something thicker, when all they needed was to have checked the latches to be sure the lids were closed all the way?

Thanks

Don, thanks for the tip. I have had the new to me 41 and have ahd the same frosting problems. I was about to replace the seals when I saw your post. Thanks to you I have realized that3 out of 4 latches only have on side so nothing was really latching down. Have ordered the parts and am hoping for a great result. Did your frost get better with the latch fix?

Yes! And the thing was a lot colder on a lower setting than before.

I noticed the other day that the latches for the medicince cabinet in the heads is the same.

I replaced a couple of latches on mine last week but am still having the frost problem. I am going to do the dollar bill lid check and try plugging the drain hole.

Make sure it is mostly dry before turning it on. I was adding ice to cool off the drins and then turning it on when the ice got low. This added a lot of mositure. Now I put the drinks etc in a cooler and add the ice and later move to the refrigator.

The drain hole should be plugged if running the system.

I've owned a Hunter 410 for three summers on the Great Lakes. My first boat was a 1998 and I had a real problem with the refrigeration. My 2000 410 operates a lot better. I don't keep much things in the freezer so I load my freezer with 4 - 8 pound ice blocks and place them in a large plastic bag. This reduces the frig operation quite a bit. The plastic bag reduces the moisture from frosting up the freezer walls and actually provides a shelf for everything I usually use the freezer for. I only open the frig from the top as the front will spill unnecessary cold out. I still have to defrost the freezer every 10 days or 2 weeks. I found you can purchase the circulating fan between the freezer and frig for under $5 from frys.com . It's actually a computer cooling fan. BTW, I could have returned the 4 blocks of ice for a refund at years end if it weren't because it was a "food" item. Obviously the ice didn't melt and contribute to the frost due to the one central plastic bag.

I was not satisfied with the cooling on the refrigerator side even with the the little fan so I installed a small plate in the refrigerator and I now have cold beer when I want it. The new refrigerator is air cooled and I located it behind the oven.

You can do it from here. When I tried from Hunters site it just bounced me over to here.

Any pictures of this install behind the oven? I have thought about adding another plate but couldnt get up to the challenge of going thru the freezer with the tubing...

Thanks
