She is in the water !

Have then translated... maybe usefull later

5 ton crane came to pick up the boat ,, drove it to water's edge ,, and with me in her, gently lowered into the water,, got the engine started right away ,, and pulled away ,,,
Tested the keel drop ,, works fine ,, just docked it straight away ,,, heavy wind here ,, I don't think I can manage to step the mast alone ,,, will wait for a calmer day ,,

The rudder ,, when I put her in the water ,, it rose up by it self 90 degrees ,, had to use the pulley rope you've mentioned to take it down. Engine ,,, no problem.

Boat is now docked right in front of my summer house,, 50 meters away.

congratulations!!!
Look nice in the water... nice view to enjoy from the house...and will get better when you manage to put the mast upright...
The rudder...if it came up 90 degrees...should be ok as long as it stays in place retracted... for safety better you keep using the rope you improvised the first time...

Congratulations once again...you've new boat and a good looking new pier!!!

Mast Up !

There was a very thin sleet of ice on the boat this morning ,, but wind so calm not a ripple on the water,,,
Step by step, attached side shrouds ,, pulled back the mast ,, raised it slowly pinned the forward stay,, then the rear ,, no tension gauge , used gut feeling ,, put the sail up ,, everything so easy ,,, Now I wait for a good wind. ,, ;)

My 17ft feels so safe and easy to handle ,, basically a main and a jib ,, got her down low ,,
Today was on the water for 7 hours ,, all alone.

Yamaholics

Hello all Yamaha owners,, greetings from Seoul, Korea,,
Yesterday ,, I bought a day sail ,, a 17 footer Yamaha ,, made over 30 years ago ,,but registered in 2005.
I will be sailing this boat in the river ,, few steps from my summer house ,,
To find about the boat ,,I've sent an EM to New Japan Yacht ,, response was that they no longer have any info on the boat since it was built ,, so so long ago.
Any way she is in a pristine condition with a Nissan 8HP outboard,,that is almost brand new and starts in one pull. All the riggings have no rust or corrosion , sails are new dacrons.
She is pretty and in a few days she will be going in the water ,, I will be having many questions and I hope ,,, your kindness will prevail and Yamaha heads will sort me out here ,,on any questions I may have.
Some pics here for your reference ,,,
If any one knows about this cutie ,, all your feed backs will be eaten up by me like a sponge.
Thanks again ,,,

Hello Yun-Soo:

Congratulations, looks like you got yourself a very nice boat. I think you will have many hours of fun and pleasure sailing.

My love afair with Yamaha's started in 1993 with a 25 Mk II that had been neglected and I took 2 years to refit. The inside was like new but needed to paint the top decks and replaced windows and rigging. She looked great when I got done.

From the 25 I went to a Yamaha 33 built in 1985. This was a very well built boat, like all Yamaha's and was in excellent shape. I kept it 11 years but due to my divorce, needed to sell it in 2002.

I am now re-married and after years of looking for another nice Yamaha, I met a man who owned a Yamaha 37. The 37's were custom built to order and to my knowledge, only 5 built of which only 4 remain here. The one we have is laid out for cruising below and you can see the posts to show you our upgrading. It is my ultimate Yamaha dream.

I am trying to get a response from Japan, not New Japan Yacht but Yamaha because I heard they still have hinges and latches I would like to replace on our Yamaha but have not received a response yet.

Feel free to ask any questions, I am sure the group will be happy to reply.

Fair winds,

On Land

Again hired a 5 ton crane with a truck bed ,, crane guy came to the summer house , ,loaded up the platform ,, I had lowered the mast on previous day,,, motored up river ,, to a newly constructed bridge ,,, I already had the harness under the boat at the balance points, while she was docked ,, crane lifted me and 17,, 5 meters out of the water ,, with me on the deck ,, I am getting a trailer built for the boat.
I lowered the swing keel ,, found out that it was made of iron ,, painted the whole thing with deep blue marine enamel and greased the heck out of the keel chain.
Washed her and got 90% of the water mark and dirt ,,still needs to take out the teak oil stains and shoe marks.
Brought in all the sails and the motor, into the garage ,, my cover guy is coming this week to fit my winter cover..
Thinking of dong this ,, http://www.nuteak.com/

Boat Covers

Swing Keel ,,
I have learnt so much about the swing keel recently ,, all on internet ,, amazing ,,
The safety issue ,, how to trailer ,, how to store long term ,, with cable tension loose ,, how to do maintenance and repair.
As you can see I got the keel hitting the ground ,, on a soft padding.
To think I had this trucked over 500 KM , with keel up ,, gee ,, ignorance is bliss ,,

To make my stepping easy

To make my stepping easy ,, I have devised a pole extension,,, that will suspend the mast half way,, to ease the transition,, whether I am going up or down,, also to hang the mast,, in case water rises too high during the monsoon and I have go under the bridge.
Went to an old section of the town, where they sell aluminium pipes , bought a two meter x 40mm and 20cm x 42mm pipe that will sit on the two meter section to accept my existing one meter x 40mm piece with saddle. I can simply pull up the mast using a halyard attached to the fore stay chain plate.
Pipes cost USD 14 and the aluminium welding was USD 8 ,, some pics here..
And if need be I can make a gin pole very easy,, amazing what these fellows can do.

That's a very cleaver idea. Will make it very easy to handle the mast.
I start to envy you in Korea...with all that handy man around...try to came to "China" (Macau) and ask one here to do it...they will look at you like you are an alien and don't even try to do it...

:)
