Hello, I wish to add a detachable staysail on a Pearson 31-2. Looking for any advice.
Thanks,
Enrique
Hi Enrique,
On my Pearson 31-2 (Hull #5,
About Time, New Orleans), I have a diamond padeye thru-bolted on the foredeck just behind the anchor locker. It was mounted there, presumably, by a former owner and my boat came with a staysail (not yet used in the year I have owned the boat). Apparently, the tack of the staysail must have some sort of shackle to attach to the padeye on the deck and I have a wire-to-rope halyard about 2/3 up the length of the forward side of the mast which must be used to raise and lower the staysail (I use it most of the time for a topping lift for my whisker pole and/or spinnaker pole). I have double-sheet rollers mounted on my genoa tracks and presume that I could run sheets for the staysail through them while also using the genoa (or, alternatively, mount another set of cars/slides on the same track for the staysail sheets).
In writing this to you, I/we have now piqued my curiosity and I may just try hoisting the staysail this weekend to see what it looks like, how it works, etc. If I do, I'll try to snap a few photos and see if I can post them here (or send them to you).
What is the hull # for your boat? How long have you owned it? And in what part of the world do you sail/keep it?
