Hi Tim,
Aside from the obvious, do they use GPS or chartplotters on those schooners? They're out several times a day and every day around the same islands, have they changed something? We were away and only heard a boat had gone aground, curious.

Hard to find a good lead line sailor. Maybe he was heaving from the stern. :)
(I meant the lead line).

I am not sure exactly where they fetched up this time but last time it was on a very well known wreck that exposes itself at low.

There was another grounding this weekend on the same Ram Island that the PS ran up onto 2 weeks ago.

In the 15 years I have lived here, I have never heard of a boat going up on Ram Island. Mainesail may know more about this. He was out and monitoring 16 when it happened.

The radio was interesting this weekend and the USCG did not do a whole hell of a lot other than blah, blah, blah this is USCG station 012223333444555777888333dot6666dot71 etc. etc..

A boat was reported on fire off Cundy's Harbor by two boats. The USCG finally responded over 35 minutes later with an "this is USCG station 012223333444555777888333dot6666dot71 any boats in the vicinity of Cundy's Harbor be on the lookout for a boat on fire"..

The first boat to report the fire to the coast guard was not even responded to....

Had four distress signals come blasting thought the VHF and damn those things are LOUD woke up our napping daughter who was in the v-berth with the fan on.

As Tim said another boat rain up on Ram Island. This makes two boats in two weeks...? Oh and the visibility was about 6-10 miles so fog was not a factor.. I still have no clue how you run aground on Ram Island? There are plenty of ledges that I can fully understand how it can happen but Ram is not one of them. Running aground on Ram is like running aground on the Statue of Liberty...;)

As for the Wendameen they are really going to have a tough time living this one down..

Maybe both of these groundings was a results of dodging lobster pots;)

It was a crazy weekend. A 20 something foot powerboat was stolen from DiMillos Marina in Portland Friday night. Must be the heat.

Perhaps there is a band of bottom-dwelling gremlins living on the ocean floor whose only purpose is to change the location of granite ledges and wrecks just to nail unsuspecting sailors. :) They were hired by lobstermen who are tired of sailboats snagging pots, cutting lines, and fouling the pot warp to FUBAR.

How anyone could accidentally hit one of those ledges on the northern/western shores of Great Diamond is beyond me. Asterisks all over the chart, and no fewer than four of those conical red buoy things just on the NW shore of that island. You don't even need a chart plotter to know how to avoid the hard parts. Aren't people taking passengers for hire supposed to have at least some basic navigational skills?

Maybe they were trying to avoid snagging lobster pots.:)
