As long as she is maintained you shouldn't have any problems. I'd want a GOOD heater though.......

No problem Cape Cod to ME as long as you plan to marina hop and not go for more than three days without touching. Otherwise you will run out of holding tank. Mine is only 12 gallons and it goes fast.

Just for the record: I think a 9.2 could cross Oceans with the right Skipper. (assuming she is shipshape)

Local Surveyor

Peter Hunt in Norton surveyed mine and did a great job. Check the bulkheads (and read the repair I posted on this site) and the engine beds. I could also look at it in a pinch if it is local. Peter was very thorough, a sailor, used to work at Cape Dory and also quite reasonably priced.

Looked at two boats today . One was a 1978 water damage on cabin sole and around windows. The other a 1980 was in great shape and well cared for.

IMO

In my opinion...buy the best boat you can...in the long run it will prove cheaper.

The owner sent me a survey he had done in 2007 when he purchased boat.At that time it ckecked out very good. I really want to pull trigger on this one. The only thing I must sell my boat. I hope it does not sell beforehand.

Also, let me know if you want me to take a look at the S2 for you, if it isn't too far away, or perhaps you could come to see mine in Boston and I can show you what to look for.

How's the S2 hunt going? IMHO, an S2 should make a great coastal sailer, but I'd want something a bit more sea kindly for ocean-going. The boats are in the same class as Oday, Pearson and Catalina 30's, but I think the standing rigging is more oversized and rugged. Speaking of which, check for moisture around the chainplates. The decks are balsa cored and if the chain plates leak the core will get saturated. Also, be prepared to do some portlight re-sealing. They are just bonded to the openings and when the sealant fails people tend to use silicone to reseal, which doesn't adhere well to the lexan.
