Searchin' Craigs List? Use OmniWeb!

Digitek - you mentioned you're searching Craig's List and a good browser to use is OmniWeb (http://www.omnigroup.com/)because one can search the entire USA with one query. Runs on a Mac.

From the local Craig's List web page just enter the search criteria in the oblong box on the right side of the header and it will search the whole country. Saves a lot of going from one city to another. It's especially helpful if you're searching for something that is somewhat scarce.

I've found a number of items using OmniWeb this way. Just recently started doing video photography and have outfitted my camera with three microphones, preamp, cables, video tripod, and a Glidecam (steady cam), plus a few other miscellaneous stuff, saving a lot of money.

On another subject, trailer boats are nice but if you launch into salt water, because of the high cost of replacement galvanized trailers, I'd recommend considering launching with a travel lift or some kind of crane in order to save the trailer. I didn't and now I have to either buy a new trailer or get the one I have sand blasted and painted or galvanized. Either way, it's expensive.

oday 25 long island sound
geez I keep getting sidetracked..I dont know why but I always find myself looking at the oday mariners..I just like the looks of them..I know that they will probably be too tiny for my needs..even though I will mostly daysail..I would like the option to cruise the long island sound a little bit and overnight..that would probably be a little tough with a 19 fter..probably even a little tight with a 23 fter..but def more doable..

Daysailors - the right kind, can be practical

You're talking about a 19-footer being maybe a tad too small? Our first family boat was a 16-foot McVey Falcon. The Falcon is much like the O'Day Daysailor, just a tad smaller.

It had a swing-up keel and swing-up rudder so it would be beached easily. It had a cuddy just aft of the mast where we would stow stuff in a hanging net to keep it off the cockpit sole and stay dry.

We sailed her mostly out of Wickford, RI, on Narragansett Bay. Day trips were to East Greenwich, Dutch Island, and even Newport. We sailed from Pt. Judith to Block Island late one September weekend. Had a good sail out and we were the only one of two boats in the bay. The other was about a 60-footer, crewed. The owner owned a lot of billboards in Rhode Island.

Other cruises included sailing the length of Lake Tahoe in one afternoon. We launched at north shore at noon and were anchored at south shore that evening. Also sailed out the Golden Gate (against the flood!) and down the coast.

Cruising "acomodations" included a boom tent, sleeping bags and mattress (blow-up), Colman stove, and an ice chest. Used a 3-hp long shaft Johnson which I still have.

Towability was great, absolutely no problem with a small car. Set-up time to sail was only a matter of minutes. Raise the mast with the boat still on the trailer (left the stays attached and just set the forestay), set the boom, put on the rudder and outboard, and you're good to go.

When we got our H-35 we were on cloud 9, but we still have our Falcon and cherish the memories. The trailer is a little rusty for the years, but we couldn't bear to part with her.

The Mariner would definitely be more upscale.

Why not compromise? Get two boats!!!

Searching Craig's List

Another good way to search craig's list if you don't have a Mac is to use advanced search features on Google and limit the domain to craigslist.org. When you get the results you scroll down the list looking for craigslist citys near (enough) to your location.

Good hunting,

Sumner - Great web site!

Got a kick about the statement of contributing blood to the mosquitos.

Reminds me of when we went through northern Michigan - they were plastered all over the windshield and we didn't have any "Off". This was when we were towing our Falcon 16 from Rhode Island and I planned to "cruise" the Great Lakes there. Needless to say, we kept going! This was the end of June.

The great thing about trailer sailors is there are so many places one can go, and at 60 mph. Later we drove I-2 and went via Red Lodge in Montana. We stayed overnight on the boat before climbing the grade up 212 to Yellowstone via Beartooth Pass. It was c-o-l-d-!!!

The next day we towed the boat over Beartooth Pass, 10, 974 feet (for the guys on the east coast, this is the LOW point! Took the air filter off the engine to let it breathe better and it needed all the power it could make.

Your pictures about the rock just below lake level is one of the hazards of lake sailing. With reservoirs, there is also the trees that were not removed.

One plus is there didn't seem to be many power boats around in your pictures. But then why waste good pixels on 'em?

On our trip to Alaska we met two trailer sailors - one from Idaho and another from Arizona, so that shows that one is not limited with a trailerable boat. In fact, if memory serves (and maybe it doesn't) wasn't the first sailboat in a long time to make it through the Northwest Passage a few years ago was a trailerable boat?

The Great Internet

Same here, I get a kick out of surfing the Internet to find stuff. A few months ago I was given a nice video camera and after taking a few pictures with it I was hooked.

And like you,

using Craig's List, I wound up getting a ME-66 shotgun mic with cables from a guy in Northern California, another cardioid ME-64 from a guy in Salt Lake City, and a Rode stereo mic from a guy in Arizona, and a Glidecam from a guy in Las Vegas. Of course, everybody uses eBay where I got a JuicedLink pre for the first two mics from Ohio to make the first two mics work with the camera. And the shopping isn't over!

Video is interesting. Lots to learn.

While I'm on the subject of searching all over, just in case anyone knows of some stashed away somewhere, is accordion sheet music. A little shameless plug - just drop me a line.

That is a great mountain highway, one of the prettiest in the country. I cross-country skied over part of that highway from Wyoming into Cook City once, without an air cleaner ;). I wouldn't want to haul our boat over there unless I absolutely had to,

Hey DigiTek

I just saw this boat on eBay and thought of your quest....

She really looks clean and would make a nice pocket cruiser for two...
