Hunter 42 ft. Passage moored in Roatan, Honduras, Central America
Hi,

I have a broken midship chock on a Hunter 42 Passage 1994 that I need to replace. It is 6 inches long and attaches to the metal toe rail. Would anyone out there know where I can find one of these please? I still have the attaching hardware, just need the chock. I am attaching photos. One of the broken one and one that shows what it should look like. Any advise would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Did you try the Hunter factory? They would be my first choice for this item that looks to be a "special". I have a similar one on my 1997 h40.5.

Not yet. Our luck with Hunter responding to us has not been great. I'll suggest that my husband try again. Do you happen to have an email address or phone/name for someone who has been particularly helpful to you who works on things like this in the past? If so, would you please share that with me. Maybe we've been trying to deal with the wrong info.
Thank you for your response.

My "Go-To" guy at Hunter is Mike Thomas. He works Parts/Customer Service. His number is (800) 771-5556 x3615.

Email: customerservice@huntermarine.com

Good luck. BTW, how did this chock break?
Hi Rich,

Thanks for the contact. My husband, in the states just called Hunter and they told him these are not made anymore and had no suggestions for another replacement. The boat is in Roatan with a broken chock and I don't know the answer of how it was broken. I will have to ask my better half. If it were you, what would be your next step in trying to find one? A salvage yard or something else? We don't want to go drilling around on the toe rail to rig this. We would really like to find a replacement if possible. We don't know who used to make them. Hunter didn't tell him this morning who the manufacturer was.

If you have the broken piece, maybe it could be welded. Or you could call Mike Thomas back and ask who the manufacturer was.

I can't think of another solution, but maybe someone else knows of a parts salvage yard. I know there are places in Florida and perhaps if you emailed them a picture they could find one for you.

I will pass this on to my husband and see what Mike tells him. My husband says the missing piece is in the bottom of the ocean somewhere between TX and Central America. He tried JB weld when he first found the missing piece. That lasted a while but then it broke and we lost the broken piece into the deep blue.
Thanks for your time and effort.

Well, Mike doesn't know who makes them. We don't have the other part that broke either. We did and my husband used JB Weld on it and it worked for a while but now it's in the bottom of the ocean somewhere. I've looked online and can't find anything similar. I guess we'll just have to do without it or try to find one in a salvage yard in the southern states somewhere. Fabricators down here are not reliable in Central America.
Thanks for trying to help.

If it were me I would have stopped needlessly making myself crazy about this about two weeks ago. You will get no help from Hunter. Period. Been there, gave up.

I would mount a couple of New Found Metals chocks. Oh wait, I did. Simple to mount, beautiful, strong as solid stainless steel. Only about $50.00 each. You might have to cut away an inch or so more of the toe rail. Not worth thinking about. Images below.

The third picture is one of the chocks I installed on my Hunter 33. I mounted it up on a spacer to avoid cutting toe rail. In your case it is cut already so opening it up is no big deal. The cleat is N F M also.

Sam,

Thanks for the reply and info. I showed this to my husband this morning and he tells me that this is not exactly what he had in mind but will take it into consideration. We appreciate you taking the time to put the photos and sketches here so we could see what you are talking about.
