recently bought a Pearson hawk and am having trouble with the centerboard. I am not familiar with how the centerboard is supposed to mount. it came as a seperate piece loose and i need to know how it mounts in the centerboard well.

Glad to hear there's another Hawk owner! I'm not sure I see your problem - the centerboard simply slides down in the slot. The notch goes forward (and there's a stop down in the slot) and there should be a cleat or some kind of hardware at the back of it. This serves both to raise and lower the board (while still in the slot) and to keep it from falling through. Just to be sure, here's a picture of mine - yours should be similar http://www.flickr.com/photos/33992457@N08/3441380711/in/set-72157616670352125/
