A loan vs. gifting.

We sold our home and went cruising back in 2000. While cleaning out the shop the new owner remarked about how he could use the wood working saws etc. Could he use them until we returned? Another long time friend also remarked about how he would love to use/store my metal working equipment. So be it.
Upon our reture:
The new owner said, when I finally went to his place of work because he refused to return my calls, that his lawyer advised him the tool were considered part of the sale as they were mounted on the counters.
The old friend, well he got into drugs, at the age of 60, and sold all the welder, saws etc.
I try to be a non-violent person but that is a damn hard thing to do sometimes.

I'm sure you've heard this once too often. Always get it in writing... especially anything to do with real estate. Your good word or a handshake agreement is not good enough.

My two Cents for what it's worth.

A verbel agreement isn't worth the paper it's written on.

It is not age but milage (Knotical miles ) that counts. I know I am forty three with a lot of miles on this old chassis.
I have had two wives and they didn't leave or divorce me. I wore their butts out.

handshake deals are worthless in this new modern screw you age....
get money first then send--then, if the person dies, you still has yer dough..LOL

Actually, handshake deals are still worth something among honorable people...too bad they're getting so damn scarce...

I agree Dog. It is not that hard to tell the good from the bad when face to face.

I will continue to trust most folks but be a little more careful.

BTW, I was planning on giving the prop away anyway. The principle of the thing gets to me and I do not want to see anyone else here burned worse than me.

Wow Tim, that's really sad.
I can only hope, and it's a thin hope, that sometime down the road he gets back in touch with you and pays up.... like that fellow that took many months to repay my shipping $ for some "cargo shifting" many years ago via the Ericson list.
In my case it turned out that the guy was out of the country for quite a while. I believe that most folks are honest, but... still.... there certainly are a few bad apples out there.

People run into hard times now and then.... But... there is the DMV in California - and you can access the information... there are also the people searches on the internet... some are quite good...
