I installed my Raritan Elegance head in early June and have been using it regularly ever since. I'm a liveaboard and am the only user. It's been wonderful up to two days ago, when I noticed that it had more water in the bowl than it normally has after a flush. When I checked the platform behind the head it was very wet. I dried it all off and looked for any leaking hoses but found that nothing appeared to be leaking.

I haven't had the problem with extra water in the bowl since then, but now whenever I do a normal flush, where it flushes and fills 3 times, enough water leaks out of the back of the toilet to completely wet a single, full-size section of paper towel. The discharge hose is dry, and I'm comfortable that nothing is coming from that. The freshwater inlet hose and connectors are also dry, so frankly I can't figure out where the leak is, but I'm pretty sure it's a freshwater leak. I'm still investigating.

My question is this: has anyone else had this problem with a Raritan macerating head? If so, what is wrong? If not, should I contact Raritan at this point?

Thanks in advance

Denise: I would definitely contact Raritan. There may be something that they can quickly diagnosis.

Vic Willman, Raritan's tech services manager, drops by here from time to time...I've emailed him to ask him to check in on Monday.

The Elegance is a brand new toilet that uses new technology...and kinda like software, version 1.0 of even the highest quality products can have some issues. So let's wait and see what Vic has to say.

Thanks to both! I'm trying not to panic, and this toilet has had such great reviews that I am sure it will become clear what it happening. I'm still trying to determine where the water is leaking without removing the toilet from the platform. I'm hoping it's a hose I can't easily see. I love having it, in any case.

I'd have a look at the upper portion of the rear of the head. Feel around back there for something wet; my suspicion is that the vacuum breaker is leaking. If so, not a big deal to replace it and the part would be covered under warranty.

If you can't find the leak...

Give Vic a call. He's been there 36 years and has forgotten more about everything that Raritan has ever made than anyone else--me included--will ever learn. 800-352-5630 x 6. Or email him: vic@raritaneng.com He WILL reply promptly!

and I'll communicate with him via email. The response is amazing. The first advice here suggested I contact Raritan directly, so I sent out some emails before you stepped in with your own contacts. Thank you again. I'll let you know what happened.

Part leaving today (7/22) via Priority Mail, with instructions. Took me a while to put the instructions together, but its on its way. Replacing that one part should solve the problem PERMANENTLY !!!

Re: Marine Elegance

An update on this leak. I received the part and instructions from Vic at Raritan on Friday. I tackled the repair yesterday, per their very well laid out instructions. So far everything is back to normal and no leaks have occurred. I typically bypass the holding tank when I'm just running clear water through the head so that I can flush as many times as I need to in order to confirm that everything is working as expected. Everything looks perfect and I'm hugely relieved. Thank you Peggy for your help with this, as well as Steve and especially Vic at Raritan!

Raritan actually named a new toilet "Elegance?" What's in a name? Same thing that's in a toilet.....:dance:
