It isn't 100% clear that BMW/Oracle will challenge with the tri. There's a little speculation that they plan to either build new or mod it significantly 'cause they've refused to commit to a customs cert yet. Must be nice to have the cash to play those kinds of games...

Looks a lot like a "A" cat x 10 to me. The A's are just outlawing foils, but foils are a real possibility... Wouldn't that be special... With foils we're looking at >40 knots with possible sudden loss of lift because of cavitation or fouling...

The America's Cup has always been a technology race first and tactics second. Go back through the history of boats and you will see clear innovations that helped the winning boat.
What I would like to see are nationalized teams. American boat, American skipper, American crew. The best technology and people from the given country.

No, I understand the argument you're making and have some sympathy for it, but it is a bit contrary to suggesting the racing should be slower. I'm not even a tiny bit worried about the purity of the Cup. It has always been about very rich men pronking. I pray that they don't kill anyone, but watching them pronk higher and faster should make for great spectacle. For sailing purists there is one-design racing on the match racing circuits. Honestly though, which would you rather watch on TV?--Tom.

That race has gotten ridiculous. I would much rather watch people match race J-24s or Melguis 24s than that race because money is the king. What ever happened to sailing with pure skill.
Hell, They should make one Governing body and have them design the boats to spec and countries should then put their best sailors on the boat. It would actually be a race then rather than a technology battle.
