It isn't 100% clear that BMW/Oracle will challenge with the tri. There's a little speculation that they plan to either build new or mod it significantly 'cause they've refused to commit to a customs cert yet. Must be nice to have the cash to play those kinds of games...It's going to be interesting with a 90 ft Cat and a 90 ft Trimaran, I guess...
Looks a lot like a "A" cat x 10 to me. The A's are just outlawing foils, but foils are a real possibility... Wouldn't that be special... With foils we're looking at >40 knots with possible sudden loss of lift because of cavitation or fouling...I guess if it floats it is a boat. but it sure don't look like any boat I've ever seen.
Would horse racing be more tactical if done on donkeys? It looks like they're throwing tactics out of the AC formula..... technology is king, I guess. The course will have to have 10 mile legs or the races will be over in 30-40 minutes.
Me too! There's lots of great stuff on youtube. Here's one:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0Xtpo3E4qg. Right at the start there's a shot of and 18 foot skiff being run down by a commercial vessel -- just for a segue from our earlier discussionI rather love the Australian small boat races with meat ballast running back and forth on outriggers and carrying a clould of sail.
Me too!!What I would like to see are nationalized teams. American boat, American skipper, American crew. The best technology and people from the given country.
