Have I been wrong all these years. Recently spent a couple weeks in San Diego, and noticed something I have never noticed around here. Many, and well over 50% of the boats I noticed sailing with a single sail up, were using the main only. These were both masthead and fractional rigs. I have always believed that when flying only a single sail, that you used the main on a fractional rig, and the genny on a masthead one. So whats the deal, have I been wrong, do these people know something I don't, or do they not know. With a masthead rig, I can sail just about as fast on the genny alone, and do this a lot when I am just out taking it easy, and want to expend as little effort as possible.
