It feels so good to finally be putting stuff back onto the boat instead of just taking stuff off. Put on several layers of barrier coat (2000E) this past weekend as well as a couple coats of ablative. Both paints were much easier to apply than I expected. My first experience with either one. The base for the 2000E was much thicker than I expected, but once mixed up was a good consistency. The bottom paint was much thinner than I expected. I thought it was going to be like a thin mud, but it was just like regular house paint, just weighs more.
Prior to any painting. I had to do a small repair to the fiberglass around the centerboard wedges since a little was chipped off.
After 2000E barrier coat
Bottom paint applied. I kept it away from the bootstripe to hopefully help with painting the bootstripe. I am planning on applying a thin layer of primer to all of the topsides, then tape off the bootstripe, finish the bottom paint, prime and paint the topsides, then the prime and paint the bootstripe. It's working in my head... We'll see how it goes in reality
The color scheme is the red bottom, white bootstripe and accent stripe at the top of the topsides, and navy blue on the topsides (one shade lighter than flag blue). The centerboard is painted and ready to go back in. Replaced the line to it as well as the rubber hose to it in the bilge. I played around a little bit with my new buffer as well. Polished up the SS tube for the keel line. Looks brand new. Once I get the centerboard back in, I'll drop the boat back on the trailer. Only about a year behind schedule on that!
