I have a 1994 Catalina 320. Does anyone make an air conditioning option for my boat ? I have seen some of the portable units, but would really like to get some information on a company that produces below-deck installation models.

another question for stu

http://www.catalina320.com/ They'd know if anyone would.
Thanks for the link, Stu.

On a recent topic involving the Hurth transmission, you made some appropriate comments. One thing I have not seen in the manual is regarding shifting back to neutral from reverse. If you are sailing with the engine off, and the gear in reverse, would you start the engine and then shift into neutral, or switch from reverse to neutral while still under sail, before starting the engine ? Could harm be done to the transmission by doing it either way ?

thanks,
Ron

You're very welcome.

Never start the engine in gear, and sail with it in reverse. You could go in neutral, but the noise of the spinning prop is somewhat distracting.

Nice boat ya got there! :) Enjoy.

My 1987 Catalina 30 was sailed by the previous owner in Lake Michigan (fresh water) and he installed a small window AC unit in the port locker, with the face of the AC unit facing the galley. Works OK after all these years but can only be run on shorepower. I will probably get a new freon charge on the unit this summer. Advantages of a small window AC - cost. A marine grade unit that can run off batteries which will set you back $$. It has not been important for me to be able to use it away from shore power. I also don't plan on purchasing a generator.
