We made it to Mobile

Hi- thanks for asking. We made it to Mobile! We had a bit of trouble when we left Demopolis. We were headed to the lock and a bunch of boats were waiting for us to get there. I decided to push the engine to 3200 rpm, after about 5 minutes the engine overheat alarm started blaring! We managed to limp back to Demopolis. Turns out the raw water seacock and strainer were both nearly completely clogged. I will admit I did not know to check them.

Anyway I cleaned them out - and ended up waiting a few days for weather, and then started again. This time she ran like a charm. I was able to run her easily at 3200 RPM for the rest of the journey. I learned a valuable lesson.

I've been encouraged to change out the little raw water strainer that came with the boat for something larger since I will now be traveling in salt water. Curious to know if anyone else has found the need to do this?

Thanks,

MaryC

Do you have a hull strainer for your raw water intake? If no, do have one install. It'll prevent the likes of plastic bags and leafs/seaweet get suck in to the inboard strainer. I doubt larger inboard strainer would be of any help.
