New here to the Forum, We have a Gulfstar Sailmaster 47

Hi everyone! We’re Jason and Jayme from Surf N Turf Sail’n We are in the Pensacola area.
We’re currently restoring and refitting Koyukon, our 1980 Gulfstar Sailmaster 47 ketch.
We started filming the journey because every “quick boat project” seems to turn into something completely unexpected. Right now we’re deep into a galley remodel that started with us simply deciding to remove the old refrigerator.

The old Gulfstar's are nice old boats. As I recall they are solid fiberglass with no deck coring but not 100% sure that's the case on your model.

Yeah its solid fiber glass mostly. There is a core for the deck though. Discovered that in the area where the chain goes into the locker.

Interesting. There were a lot of Gulfstar models. My friends had no coring anywhere. But it was s model made in the '70's. But I don't remember much more. Only that I was impressed that he never had to worry about rotted core. My current boat has no coring anywhere. It's solid fiberglass top and bottom.

With old boats, you just have to get to know your specific boat.

First time I fueled up my new-to-me inboard diesel engine boat in 1998 it wouldn't start. OK, right fuel, diesel not gas. OK, right button sequence: glow plugs release then start. Hmm...??? I got a kick out of your stop lever story! And my stop handle was right in front of me in the cockpit panel. Habit I got into right away after that? Push it back right in after use...
