Connecticut marinas

I wish there was a way to search marinas by price. If I was looking for a cheap/inexpensive marina in Ct. small nothing to fancy. I know ha ha . Sailboat marina not to far up a river. I guess I'd have to call or search each one to get prices? Any ideas? Seems like I'd have to make a lot of phone calls.

How are you searching? I think you are probably right - a lot of phone calls...

I've found that marinas don't want to disclose prices either on the phone or in person. I've had marinas refuse to give me their price sheet in person. I think they are embarrassed at the level of prices, and especially don't want you to comparatively shop.
Marinas are the most unpleasant part of boating.

That's interesting. I was looking in the Long Island Sound region a few years ago and did have to go to the actual marina at times to get the prices - but down in the Chesapeake region, I've not had that issue. I've usually been able to find the information online or through a phone call....

p.s. Once you do find a good marina - hang onto it! I quite agree dealing with marinas can be a rather unpleasant part of boating...

I'm 2 hours from Ct. and 4 hours from Chesapeake Bay. I sail with a friend at Rock Hall Maryland. He drives the 4 hours mostly because of the cheaper slip fees. A lot cheaper. We sailed this past weekend , it was beautiful.

I used to have a boat in Rock Hall - nice place! I'm now across the bay from Rock Hall. the Chesapeake is a beautiful sailing grounds!

I'm here because of the MUCH more reasonable prices than I was finding up in the Long Island Sound region - like an order of magnitude less....

Maybe that is a regional thing?

This hasn't been my experience, at all. I have worked with or talked to over 100 marinas, mostly in WA state. Every single one of them was pleasant to work with, helpful, and very open about pricing.

We're probably a bit out of the way for you though, @Dave Satter

Back in the day.... Active Captain had that info .... but AC got absorbed by Garmin. I'm not sure if that feature is still there.

What's your objective? It's hard to provide answers when we don't know the question.

OP is looking for a listing of marina prices in CT so he doesn't have to call around to each one to find out what they charge. Active Captain apparently used to show things like this but no longer does, or it is outdated. It would help to know where in CT he's looking. CT has more than 600 miles of coastline (lots of inlets and rivers) so his phone bill could be enormous. His profile puts him on Swartswood Lake in New Jersey so he might not be too familiar with CT. He should probably contact marinas in Black Rock, CT: Captain's Cove and Cedar.

Yes, just looking to keep a small sailboat, around 20 feet for coastal cruising, day sailing. I don't need a marina with a pool and tennis courts. :) I like Mystic and I go there a lot. I'd be driving from NJ

Mystic and Noank are in the high-rent district. Near there you might find better pricing in New London, Groton, Niantic or Waterford

Yes, I don't know exactly where he would be driving from but I assume that he lives near Swarstwood Lake. I live only 10 minutes from Swartswood and I know the traffic patterns from here to Connecticut and back very well. Mystic is at least 3 hours away in ideal traffic conditions. That's a laugh considering New York & Connecticut traffic. Traffic is normally brutal. South Norwalk may be economical and is about 2 hours away, again under ideal traffic only. Many of the LIS marinas don't look like they accommodate small 20' boats very well but I don't have any experience with that.

Barnegat Bay is about 2 hours away with more normal traffic (it can be far worse during peak weekend and commuting hours). Marinas aren't as numerous, I'll admit. Cedar Creek Sailing Center has nice accommodations for small boats but availability may be limited.

I had a Bristol 30 on a mooring in Atlantic highlands NJ for years. Hour and a half with no traffic. With traffic or weekends it turned into a 2 to 3 hour drive. NJ shore traffic is a nightmare anymore. Scott I know Allamuchy well. I keep a boat on Swartswood because we have a summer cottage there. But I'm always itching for bigger water. I just came back from Rock Hall Maryland. Beautiful sailing where I sail on a friends boat. We went to St. Michaels for the small craft festival. I'll keep searching around. I do love New England and Ct. though.

I agree that coastal sailing north of LIS is the best! Who doesn't like the cooler temps & clearer water! If I was considering moving north (& east), I wouldn't stop until I got to Narragansett Bay. Atlantic Highlands is a conundrum in my eyes. Sure it's a bit closer but most of Raritan Bay is too urban for our tastes. Besides, by the time you get off the Parkway and make it to Atlantic Highlands, you could be almost to Toms RIver. Route 36 can be a nightmare even more so than the Parkway, at least in my eyes. Raritan Bay has easier access to the Ocean and is larger than Barnegat Bay, but it is also largely affected by shallow water and marina access is limited and expensive. I'm pretty satisfied in Barnegat Bay and it will be a huge bonus once Cedar Creek gets dredged out by the end of year. Jersey shore has limited options for sure.

One thing we don't lack is wind! In fact, it often feels like we need a break from the daily 20 knot southerlies. Easterlies bring the most favorable conditions.

I'm Searching on the internet....and here I guess.
Unfortunately you‘ll need to make a lot of calls. If you don’t know the areas you can find the listings in navigation apps like Garmin Boating (Navionics) or Aqua Maps which let you load the ActiveCaptain and Waterway Guides info. You could also search Google Maps for Marinas by area.
Considering the traffic and drive time already discussed I am wondering what your plan is with a 20 foot boat. It wouldn’t be practical unless you plan to stay for at least a couple of nights. If you’re thinking about using your O’day Mariner you’ll be “camping”, and a bigger boat with more comfortable accommodation would be better.
You may also consider trailering the Mariner and staying in a hotel or Inn when you’re not out on the boat. There are many free or cheap public launch ramps all along the coast in great areas.
Western LI Sound is often in doldrums in late July/August, and the water quality is awful for anything more than wading. The better sailing is in eastern CT and RI, and you should also consider the eastern Long Island forks area (Greenport, NY) where the daysailing is great in Gardiners Bay and the water is beautiful.
Edit: Many yacht clubs have cheaper moorings, and some even have ramps. Even with the membership dues added, it might make economic sense and come with added social benefits.

May want to try Dockwa.com . It’s a marina management firm that provides online reservations for affiliate marinas. It usually lists the marina’s website in Dockwa’s description of the marina. Of course, if a given marina is not subscribed to Dockwa’s service, it will not be listed. Most, if not all marinas (large & small), on the Gulf Coast have signed up for Dockwa’s reservation service.
