May of 2023 I sanded all my teak to bare wood and then applied 3 coats of Sikkens Cetal natural teak. It looked incredible! I did NOT do a top coat of gloss. Then I learned to sail my new boat and the teak was no longer a priority because all I wanted to do was sail. Now 17 months later my teak is showing these black spots. I regret not putting more coats of cetol on this spring but too late now. How do I address these black spots ?

The finish is failing - you need to scrape off any compromised finish (use a cabinet scraper or something similar, doesn't remove more wood), sand the black spots out, lightly sand everything and re-finish with 3 coats. You can try the teak cleaners/whiteners if you want but it looks like some light sanding should clean it up. Try to put a new coat on every year or two and it will last a long time.

Unfortunately, the sealer is failing & water has penetrated beneath the sealer & into the wood, causing the black spots. Sand lightly to remove the sealer only & treat with teak cleaner two times or more to remove the spots. Light sanding will be required before resealing; however, more aggressive sanding may be necessary to completely remove the stains. I would re-coat with 2 to 3 coats of natural, followed by 2 coats of gloss. That protocol has worked well for me thru the years with finish lasting 4 years in this southern environment. Don’t know what effects repeated sub freezing temps & thawing in you locale would have. As @dmax mentioned, light sanding & reapplication of gloss would definitely improve the longevity without having to completely refinish.

:plus:Water beneath the sealed surface. I use the same prescription as @BigEasy has provided. I find it works in northern latitudes as well. Catch it now before winter.

I like that you graduated from boat maintenance to sailing. Now one works on balance. How did that Pete Seeger song go "To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven..."
