Are new keel hangers necessary?

I'm getting set to drop the keel on my new to me 1976 Cat 22.
I know I need the bushing but am not sure if the new hangers are necessary. I have the equipment to make large diameter washers of any thickness from stainless steel to take up any play between the keel and the hangers.
Just wondering what other folks have done when rehabbing their keels.
Thanks!

I took the approach that I only wanted to touch it once while it was off, so I went full send. I would change the bushing and the bracket together-- makes good mechanical sense to change all the surfaces together, but no doubt you could get away with it depending on condition.

Thank you! I’ll give your thread a good read. I’m inclined to do the same thing; once and done. For a good few years anyway.

You may not need new hangers you won't know until you get them off. When I removed my keel two of the mounting bolts snapped off on removal and required drilling out the old bolts. Good luck.
