Yes, they have become my kids since most have been with me for many years, several since pre-school and are now in high school.
A new set of kids at 81 YO ! WOW, you really know how to have fun. But you know they're what's keeping you young. If you can handle a 42 ft. boat at 81, so can I some day (I hope).

But good on you for stepping in. We had our kids in out very early twenties and that was great. Any later than that and I'd have cracked.

Thanks, Ralph. It's very important to have purpose in my life. When they put me in the ground, on that day, I will retire. Until then, lots of sailing to do, driving kids to school, places to go, people to see, things to do.

Talked to John Shepard yesterday and he's about ready to head out on Hadley. A rendezvous is definitely in the making, maybe in a week or so. Also a time to celebrate his Hadley sojourn. A bloody mary sounds good, or a vodka tonic, or a...

Terry, you're an inspiration and have caused me to set new goals for myself. #1 is to sail into my 80's. Thank You.

I am forever inspired by Terry.
An adult beverage sounds very good. I'll try to have ice on SV Hadley.

I just had my 10 yr interval colonoscopy. When I woke up, My jaw was fully open and I could not close it. Lock jaw! Neither the nurses or the doc knew what to do about it. I tried to reset it to no avail. They finally said to head for the ER. Three hrs in the ER (mostly waiting) and the ER doc could not fix it. They had to put me under again and reset it. Woke up like nothing happened. No pain..The doc had to admit this was a strange occurrence. Next time I go under for anything, my jaw gets taped into a partially closed position.

That was the good news. No polyps.
I looked. It is a rare occurrence but one of the potential side effects of general anesthesia. More likely to occur in the dental chair than the hospital. Likely the made you wait hopeful it would resolve with out intervention.
Sure happy the issue resolved.
Get healthy Mark.

That is very good news, Mark. I've had a few small ones, but left unchecked, can become lethal. How about a PSA? Be sure to get one.

This thread proves that good friends know each other inside and out. ;):dancing:
Good morning, Hayden. Little did I know when I started this thread, that such a simple question would strike such a cord. It is hard to let go of a passion when the ravages of age, or other factors, forces it upon you. I can feel the creep. My day is coming, hopefully later rather than sooner.

I am 15-years your junior and use you as one of my examples to live by. This year was the year I desided to hang up my shingle so that I would have the time to do what I love doing rather than working 18-hours a day seven days a week for months on end. Currently I am playing Diesel mechanic and doing the 60-month service on my motorhome.
When are you and John thinking about your meetup. I am heading to Shallow Bay this weekend for an informal rendezvous with a group of C30's.

Good afternoon, Hayden. I'm waiting for some word from John as to when he's ready to head out, hopefully, this week. Shallow Bay sounds nice. I spent a few days there a couple of weeks ago. Perhaps a meet up there might work out. I'm heading to the boat this evening and then set sail tomorrow, if home matters work out.

My float plan is to have a dock start at 0800 on 8/8 to get through Deception before 1300. Then I will catch a strong flood up Roserio. The plan is a straight shot to anchorage in Shallow the evening of 8/8. Now if I can just get a SW breeze it will be a grand spinnaker run! Right now, Windy says WNW at 7 so it will be close hauled to the west tip of Orcas and then dead up wind from there. I might bail out at Clark for the night.

If you make it up to Sucia, let me know and we can connect for a beer.

Closing in on 71. Our C34 is set up for single handing. I do a lot of solo day sails. My bride enjoys sailing with me when the forecast is 5-10kts and diminishing ..The plan is to keep sailing this boat until I can't. My bride has suggested that in a few years we see her and get a smaller daysailer.. My response is always the same.. "This is a very stable platform, a smaller boat will be tender...so providing that heeling that you don't like.." TBD...

I'll be 82 soon and plan to continue my second career; driving a school bus and for ten more years, which will make it a little over 30 total. Given my health, my plan is to continue sailing for another ten years. If you get joy from what you do, why not? A good life requires a plan. I think I can do it.
