Ok.... Here we go again... Since buying a used engine proved to be caos regarding opinions, well with the same amount of money maybe a but more theres a good possibility to get a Lombardini. (- Lombardini Marine by Kohler - LDW702M... NEW, ZERO HRS) this is what the search brought back. Once again your opinions and wisdom is appreciated.
Remember, this is for a 1985 Pearson 303 replacing and old iriginal yanmar.
Awaiting to read from you'll. Thx

No link, so can't offer any useful advice on the engine. One question, can you get parts for the engine?

Looks like a good engine but .. a couple of things would give me concern: Fuel filter and sea water pump is on the back side of the engine. Heat exchanger service is from the engine backside.. I have messed with the 2 GMF on a Pearson 303 and I didn't remember the backside access to be good... I see that the fuel injectors and HP injection pump aren't "standard" ones, and may be tough to get serviced here in the US... The cam timing belt has to be changed.. probably not a huge thing and the access looks OK..
I seem to remember that there was a reason to not rebuild the 2 GM, but that direction would seem better??

My new Marine Generator has Lombardini engine, 16 hp. It is lighter and more efficent than my old 16 hp Yanmar.

Not on mine. Every thing, including the pencil Zinc, is all in the front. In fact, it Blue Tooth's to my iPad and shows all info when running.

But not my main engine, which is British made or Volvo.

Did Kohler build the engine and block or is it a Marinized version of someone else's block?

I think they are Kohler made engines and not marinized from other manufacturers. Kohler generally does a good job.. They bought Lombardini to expand their line.. Lambordini also made some good small diesel tractor engines, kinda like Yanmar and Kubota and Mitsubishi ..Those engines all turned up in marinized versions. The aluminum head and overhead cam are kinda unique today. Volkswagen sold a little marinized overhead cam automobile diesel a few years back but never got acceptance in the market.. Note on the back of the 702, the water pump is driven from the cam and the fuel filter is just starboard of that. The heatex access is just below the water pump.. None of that is bad if there is service access.

Assume you are referencing the one on eBay? The seller has multiple engines/sizes. I saw those listed 6-months ago and was curious the history... when I asked the seller about his comment they are new and were in storage, he replied they were made in 2002 and sitting since then... so "new", but 20+yr old rubber... could be good deal, could be a nightmare. Just FYI
