We've just anchored in the harbor. What an interesting poet! Everything going on here...

Just posted the tracks before you said, "We're here".
Hahaha - of course I have to settle in the anchor, check where I'm swinging with all the boats around me, turn off the engine and then i can post. You are way faster than me!

So a bit more on my bow thruster dropping out. In the circuit with bow thruster and windlass has a switch to disconnect the circuit when not in use. This is the second time I've had to replace that switch. These are supposed to be high current switches but they do not seem to last.

I'll need to find a switch that can handle at least 200 amps. That's what the circuit is fused at. Has to be high current, that's a 12V circuit running engines...

I've done a rube Goldberg solution at the moment that works, but I'll need to find a decent on/off switch... The pain is space constraints... I'll have to take some photos and post.

Good luck with your continuing make and mends.

Thank you.

Just found a store that had all the parts I may need. Discovered the switch that has failed twice is only rated at 100 amps continuous. Undersized clearly.

I found a different switch that is rated 300 amps continuous, that should be more than sufficient. I'll now have a redesign of the holder, but hey, this one should do the trick!

We have same length boat. If I remember correctly, mine is 75 amp to trip.

There is a breaker and shown above the Amp trip.

300 Amp is not a good idea.

Safety first...
Jim...

PS: The trip may be 100 amps

If the switch is just used as a service disconnect bigger is fine. If it's used as circuit protection you're right you shouldn't go up. dlj the circuit is fused at 200A, so that's what's providing the overcurrent protection, and the switch should be rated for at least that much.

Whether the 200A fuse is really the right size for the wiring in the circuit is a whole other matter. Maybe worth a quick look at the wire gauge to make sure it's adequate and all matches up.
