Do you have paint and an idea for the Wall?
I understand you are supposed to buy the paint there.. but no to both questions.. I'm a terrible artist.

I also understand it's now very hard to find a spot to paint. But when we get there, we will see. I hope Will sends me info on where he wrote on the wall back when he was here. I'll try to find it and send him a photo. If I can find it and it's still there...

Good morning John. Yes, we are thinking we should be in Horta tomorrow. These last miles will be under motor most likely as there is little to no wind. Haven't checked fuel levels in awhile so will do that soon. But it would be difficult to believe we don't have plenty reserve. Of course I'll check. This leg will be another solid check on my estimated fuel consumption. Looking forward to better statistics...

I am sure you are aware of it but just in case. You can greatly extend your motoring range by lowering the rpm's a bit. Here is a spreadsheet from a C42 for reference.

There are basically no unpainted spots, but the tradition has gone on so long that many of the older paintings have faded to oblivion. You look for a spot that has mostly faded away and paint over it.

Indeed. I'm running just enough to push the boat at about 5 knots. that's about 1800 rpm. Engine is rated to run continuously at 3000 rpm. So I'm well below top end. My first long measurement was done running at 2800 rpm and found I consume about 0.75 gallons per hour. Running at 1800 to 1900 rpm seems to drop to .46 gallons per hour.

David... The boat was certainly tossed about. I would suspect any contaminates in the tank were stirred. Be aware of your fuel filters. You hear the engine rev or surge, shut down and check for clogged fuel filters or water in the filter bowl.

One thing about working with David, it has really sharpened my navigational/weather planning skills.

That is actually what's happened with my water supply. Sure glad my water obsession said we had to bring bottled water even though I carry 220 gallons in the tanks... Gotta get that addressed in Horta.

I run a duel fuel filter system so if one filter clogs, I just throw the lever to filter 2 and replace filter 1. And just keep on keepin' on....

Yes, hoping to arrive in Horta by tonight some time. Hopefully before dark but it will be tight. It should be pretty close. It depends upon currents, swell, and how they all interact to affect my average SOG. It's been varying surprisingly quite a bit since I started watching early this morning. We are having large swell which helps if it's in the right direction, but then you have the currents that I can only guess at. The details on Windy are a bit less than I'd desire.

I was thinking that would be a brilliant approach! I'm glad you implemented that.

Consider standing offshore 'til morning light?

Well, we could, but I don't think it will be needed. Gabriel has been here before and it's looking more like it will be twilight rather than dark when we arrive.

Time will tell.

p.s. It's a pretty clear cut entrance and harbor and we aren't worried about fog.

What kind of contaminants appeared in your water system? Do you have any kind of filtration?

I just have a screen that does, indeed catch stuff. I should add a real filter.
