Hi, my Catalina 38 is under contract. I just learned my broker doesn't sail and I can't attend. I am looking for a captain who could sail the boat for the survey. Any help is appreciated.

Seems that the issue should be the responsibility of the broker, not only finding a captain but also paying the fee & being present for the survey. If the broker can't handle a sailboat, perhaps he/she shouldn't accept clients with sailboats. Thought that 10% sales commission included those services.

Since this is not a paid passenger based use of the boat, couldn’t anyone with skills serve as boat skipper, who meets the approval of the buyer and seller.

Interesting thought, but I question if the broker conducts a sea trial would that (under the law) require the broker to be a licensed captain? I suspect it would, because (s)he is being compensated. Might come up if there was an accident and the authorities got involved, or a lawsuit.

Something to consider when hiring a broker.
