Just saw this. Any tricks on dealing with this aside from pulling out the whole cabinet and messing with the whole exhaust?

The muffler is fiberglass so you can repair the hub by sanding off the gelcoat and rebuilding with cloth and resin.

Yep. I think I might be able to get some photos of one that was much worse than that which was repaired with some cloth and resin.

Well, I’m going to try it tomorrow. My hope is to go sailing by Friday!

i ground down the tube and about a quarter inch around the base and did a couple layers of glass around and the base. I let it harden, smooth sanded and reinstalled. I added a little bit of sealant and two clamps. No leaks.
I hope you can get the hose back on! :)

Helped a friend with his several years ago.. He opted for a new muffler but a repair to the inlet line as described is a fine repair. Attached is the drawing of the muffler from Catalina. It shows the construction plainly:

No problems getting the hump hose back on, it's silicone and fairly flexible, not like regular hose, thank goodness.
@Hayden Watson - You would think it's much cheaper to fix yourself, but if you don't have a garage with many of the supplies, I spent close to $200 just to buy what I needed, between sanding supplies, West System stuff, etc...
I suppose if I had a lot of the items already, it could have been closer to $100. But I have a general rule that if the repair costs more than half to replace it, then replace it. In this case though, I was anxious to go sailing this weekend.

Update: looks like that particular repair is now holding well. Have new issues after sailing trip last weekend now... Well, as they say: "Everything on your boat is broken.... you just don't know it yet."

Mine was broken slightly different than yours was, but it leaked the same. I had a chunk broken from someone using a screwdriver to pry the hose off and I didn’t have enough clamping area. I also had cracks in the epoxy or resin that held the pipe to the box so I dug all the existing “glue” out and replaced it with Marine JB Weld.

The Beginning, after cutting out the bad glass.

Glad to see your fix… fixed it.
