As a fellow Oday owner perhaps this will help . Pulling off that nasty burlap was almost fun. that is how glad I was to see it go .
I used a stiff bristled brush and kep the shop vac up ,out in the cockpit . This made clean up a breeze.
I also considered using strips of ash ,alder . I considered porch paint as it was recommended quite often. In the end I installed a very light blue short nap outdoor carpet . The color was chosen to complement the dark blue sunbrella covers for the cushions . A water based adhesive made installation almost enjoyable . As our boat sits on a mooring all summer on Lake Michigan the carpet has made the most sense . As the lake temperature is at least 20 degrees cooler than the air ,condensation was something I wanted to avoid .
In this aspect we have been very successful . The carpet also helps mitigate noises to some degree .
Installation of the carpet was fairly straight forward . The short nap allowed me to compansate for the complex curves .
Even 15 or more years later,I still believe it was the right choice ,for us . It cleans easily and it hides the uneven fiberglass layers underneath .
